Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr’s rails-drawn mare Seabrook sits top of the Queen Of The South Stakes 2020 odds for this weekend’s Group 2 clash at Morphettville.
Four Group status races headline the Robert Sangster Stakes Day card in Adelaide on Saturday including the fillies and mares facing off in the Group 2 $175,000 Furphy Queen Of The South Stakes (1600m).
The mile event originally attracted 14 female gallopers but the Queen Of The South Stakes field is down to 13 after the early withdrawal of the Greg Eurell-trained Clarice Cliffs (7).
Heading the weights with a hefty 59.5kg is the highly-credentialed Hinchinbrook four-year-old Seabrook.
Despite the big weight, she is the firming $4 co-favourite in the latest Queen Of The South Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au to salute third up from barrier one.
Jockey Zac Spain is booked for the ride, his third on the trot this prep, with Seabrook coming off two good placings.
She hasn’t won a race since the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (160m) as a two-year-old back in 2018, but is tipped to break the two-year winning drought on Saturday.
Presenting fit third-up, she comes off a last start second behind Robert Sangster hopeful Bam’s On Fire in Caulfield’s Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m) on April 11 and if she handles the extra kilos this weekend, she looks a big chance to salute for the punters.
Equal on $4 to take out the Group 2 is the Danny O’Brien-trained November Dreaming also drawn well in barrier three.
A well-bred daughter of Tavistock, November Dreaming is up in grade but has been racing very well in easier company with big weights including her last start mile win at Pakenham on April 16 carrying 60kg over the mile for a 3.5 length success.
It is a super tight top half of the market with a further two runners under $6 for the win with market mover Snogging ($4.80) and the Robbie Griffiths-trained Fidelia ($5.50) drawn in barriers eight and nine respectively.
The Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained Snogging is second-up on the weekend, the quality I Am Invincible five-year-old having taken out Bendigo’s Gold Bracelet (1400m) at a price in late March.
She’s been kept fit since for this assignment and has a nice place record at the Morphettville track including her second to Music Bay in last year’s Queen Of The South Stakes results from a wide alley (14 of 15).
Four-year-old Not A Single Doubt grey Fidelia meanwhile is out to atone for her last start eighth behind Kentucky Breeze at Caulfield on April 11, prior to which she enjoyed three straight Group status thirds including in the Sunline Stakes at The Valley.
