David Vandyke’s Magic Millions 3YO Guineas favourite Alligator Blood will have his final lead-up into the $2 million Gold Coast feature jumping the odds-on pick at Eagle Farm on Saturday in the Vo Rogue Plate 2019.
A class 11-horse field of three-year-olds does battle in Brisbane this weekend in the $300,000 Group 3 Magic Millions Vo Rogue Plate (1400m) ahead of the Gold Coast’s Magic Millions Race Day on January 11.
Red hot favourite to do the Vo Rogue – Magic Millions Guineas double for the third season in a row following the success of Pierata (2017/18) and Boomsara (2018/19) is All Too Hard gelding Alligator Blood.
The Sunshine Coast-trained Queenslander has won six of his seven career starts to date with his sole loss being the close second to Super Set in October’s $2 million Group 1 Ladbrokes Caulfield guineas (1600m).
Alligator Blood atoned first-up at Eagle Farm with an all-too-easy win in the Listed Gold Edition Plate (1200m) and he looks set to dominate and make it three-from-three at the track this weekend.
Jockey Ryan Maloney continues his association from barrier five and his mount is at a current $1.55 quote and firming in Vo Rogue Plate betting at Ladbrokes.com.au.
The all-in 2020 Magic Millions 3YO Guineas odds are also short on Alligator Blood to win at $2.10, a price that will only wind in further should he salute for the punters on Saturday.
The only notable danger according to the bookies for both the Queensland Summer Racing Carnival events is the flying Mark Newnham-trained Diamond Thunder.
Like his in-form trainer, the son of Dawn Approach has enjoyed a terrific season on the turf taking his career record up to five wins from seven runs.
Diamond Thunder has won his latest three assignments including the Listed BR Crowley Stakes (1200m) in late October at Randwick and his last start Wyong Magic Millions 3YO & 4YO Stakes (1200m) success on December 12.
This weekend he and jockey Josh Parr are rated a $4.20 shot to defeat Alligator Blood from the inside alley in the Vo Rogue Plate, while for the Magic Millions Guineas clash next month the gelding is the current $7 second elect.
The Vo Rogue Plate 2019 field is full of last start winners including another three-year-old looking for a fourth win on the trot, the Toby & Trent Edmonds-trained Scout.
Drawn wider in barrier nine with Damien Oliver in the saddle replacing Maloney aboard the Gold Coast-based son of Spirit Of Boom who comes off three lead-up wins dating back to November 9.
He went back-to-back at his home track carrying 59kg to victory both times before a narrow last start win in a three-years-old handicap over 1350m at Doomben on December 7.
Despite the nice lead-up form, Scout is a $21 roughie in Vo Rogue Plate betting rising notably in class for the Group 3 feature.
Team Edmonds have also accepted for Deep Field colt Astro Boy Toy ($26).
Other notable hopes in the mix include the Chris Anderson-trained last start Eagle Farm winner Profit ($11) to be ridden by Glen Boss from barrier three and Bjorn Baker’s Redoute’s Choice filly Let It Pour ($18).
