It is an overcast day in Melbourne for Ladbrokes Feehan Stakes Day and with nearly a 50% chance of rainfall as the racing kicks off at The Valley at 12:30pm, there is a chance the current Good (4) Moonee Valley track rating could be downgraded across the afternoon.
There are two key races on The Valley’s nine-race program today, the first of which is the Group 2 2019 Mittys McEwen Stakes (Race &).
All 10 original acceptors remain in the McEwen Stakes field, betting on the weight-for-age race at Ladbrokes.com.au led by the rails-drawn Eduardo ($4) chasing his first win since last October’s Group 2 Caulfield Sprint (1000m).
The event all the punters will be keeping an eye on however is the Group 2 2019 Ladbrokes Feehan Stakes (Race 8) – formerly the Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes – offering the winner a ballot free ride into the Group 1 $5 million Ladbrokes Cox Plate (2040m) in October.
It’s a quality 15-horse Feehan Stakes field this season featuring the likes of returning Caulfield Cup runner-up Homesman ($4.80) who ran second in the same race last year before an Underwood Stakes victory, and the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Doomben Cup winning mare Kenedna ($5.50).
