Three year old sensation The Autumn Sun has been installed as the odds on favourite after the release of the final field for the 2019 Group 1 $1m Mostyn Copper Randwick Guineas (1600m) at Randwick on Saturday.
The Chris Waller trained The Autumn Sun has drawn barrier four in the nine horse Randwick Guineas field and will be ridden again by Kerrin McEvoy who steered the colt to a first up win in the Group 2 $400,000 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on February 23.
Ladbrokes.com.au have The Autumn Sun at the short quote of $1.60 for the Randwick Guineas with Nakeeta Jane the colt’s nearest rival in the betting at $6.
Waller is pleased with the way that The Autumn Sun has come through the Hobartville Stakes victory and is looking forward to another emphatic run.
“The Autumn Sun came through the Hobartville very well and that’s simply because he’s a stronger horse this ‘prep’,” Waller told The Daily Telegraph
“He knew he’d had a race but he’s just a different horse. Everything’s been aimed toward the Randwick Guineas.’’
Trainer Mark Newnham will be backing up Nakeeta Jane against the colts and geldings in the Randwick Guineas after the filly claimed a Group 1 win over the fillies in last Saturday’s $500,000 Surround Stakes (1400m) at Randwick.
Josh Parr will stick with Nakeeta Jane who has drawn the outside gate in the nine horse field.
The Lindsay Park trained Fundamentalist was beaten a nose by Nakeeta Jane in the Surround Stakes and will be given her chance to turn the tables in the Randwick Guineas and has drawn barrier five with Sam Clipperton in the saddle again.
