Byrne drove Oregon’s Day to victory in the Group 2 $358,000 Attwood Marshall A.D. Hollindale Stakes (1800m) at the Gold Coast on May 5 and will again be aboard the Mick Price trained mare when she chases her first Group 1 victory in the weight for age Doomben Cup during the 2018 Brisbane Winter Carnival.

Oregon’s Day is stepping up to the 2000m of the Doomben Cup for the first time and Price said the mare has had a solid grounding to face the extra distance on the weekend following her win over 1800m at the Gold Coast.

“I think 2000 metres, around Doomben will be great for her and I think she’ll be a live chance to win a Group One,” Price told AAP.

“The pleasing part about her is she’s got that genuine distance in her between a mile and 2000 metres and that opens up a heap of options for her.”

“The way she finished off the Hollindale was really pleasing.”

Oregon’s Day has raced in Group 1 company on three previous occasions with her best result being a second to Daysee Doom in the Group 1 $600,000 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill during the 2018 Sydney Autumn Carnival and then two starts latter finished fourth to Alizee in the Group 1 $1m Coolmore Legacy Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on day two of The Championships on April 14.

The mare’s other Group 1 assignment resulted in a fifth to Foxplay in the 2017 Queen Of The Turf Stakes.

Oregon’s Day was a consistent performer during the Autumn and her fourth in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes was the only time she missed a place from four starts and also finished second to Flippant in the Group 3 $150,000 Frances Tressady Stakes (1400m) at Flemington and second to Prompt Response in the Group 2 $200,000 Jim Beam Emancipation Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill.

Oregon’s Day has raced nineteen times form four wins, five seconds and two thirds and has won $788,180 in prizemoney for her connections.
