There has been a very slight drift on the Winx odds offered for the mighty mare’s first-up run in Sydney this afternoon with the 15-time Group 1 champion out to $1.09 in Chipping Norton Stakes 2018 betting.
Chris Waller’s brilliant daughter of Street Cry opened at $1.07 at the start of the week for her delayed autumn return in the Group 1 $600,000 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m).
It seems there could be a little bit of concern with some punters about how she will go first-up at a mile as she has eased out to $1.09, Chipping Norton Stakes odds that could only be considered “generous” when offered on Winx.
Drawn in gate six and taking on a mediocre field of eight rivals, Winx reunites with her regular rider Hugh Bowman whose earlier suspension forced the rethink over running her in the Apollo Stakes a fortnight back.
The lethal horse and hoop combination of Queen Winx and Bowman however are on show at Royal Randwick in Race 6 at 3:30pm (AEDT) today as the six-year-old mare chases her third straight win in the weight-for-age Chipping Norton Stakes.
She is first-up since the incredible Cox Plate three-peat at The Valley last October and Waller has been singing her praises all week, especially following her nice piece of work on Thursday.
The surprising Chipping Norton Stakes market mover meanwhile backed right in from $201 to $81 is also Waller-trained with veteran stayer Who Shot Thebarman.
Heading towards a fifth shot at the Group 1 $2 million Sydney Cup (3200m) on April 14, the nine-year-old continues to show a zest for racing and does have winning form over a mile and fresh.
Who Shot Thebarman races first-up after defeating stablemate Libran on Cox Plate Day in the Group 2 Moonee Valley Cup (2500m), but from 17 starts only has four minor placings at Royal Randwick.
Libran is also in the Chipping Norton Stakes for Waller, the rails-drawn stayer a $51 chance.
Following Winx in the markets meanwhile at $14 is Prized Icon, a dual Group 1 winner prepared by Kris Lees whose second-up run for a close fourth in the Apollo Stakes was eye-catching.
The only other foreseeable danger shapes-up as the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Stampede, the likely pacesetter steady at $17 in the Chipping Norton Stakes odds and looking to improve on a lead-up Apollo Stakes sixth.
