The Run To The Rose 2017 Tips & Odds Update

There are 10 remaining hopefuls in the Group 2 $200,000 The Run To The Rose (1200m) field following the withdrawal of the Chris Waller-trained Kiwi import Qiji Phoenix.

That has seen The Run To The Rose odds on the favourite Menari firm further, Gerald Ryan’s last start The Rosebud winner at the track backed into $2.40 to make it back-to-back victories.

Fourth in the Golden Slipper as a two-year-old in the autumn, progressive Snitzel colt Menari is also leading futures odds through Ladbrokes.com.au for the upcoming Group 1 $1 million Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) on September 23.

Saturday’s favourite carted 60.5kg to victory in the Listed The Rosebud (1100m) first-up and will relish coming back to 56kg on the weekend.

The other best in The Run To The Rose betting out to stop Menari are Peter & Paul Snowden’s Blue Diamond runner-up Pariah ($3.60) who did plenty right with a first-up win in the San Domencio Stakes and the Godolphin-raced Kementari who took out a 1400m at Randwick by four lengths back in late May.

So, will the three single-figure hopes run The Run To The Rose trifecta or is there an upset pending from the likes of Group 1 winner Invader ($16) for Team Snowden or in-form Queensland visitor Shogun Sun ($21) who has run top two in his five latest starts?

Our 2017 Run To The Rose Trifecta Tip is #4 Pariah from #1 Invader and #5 Menari

1st

#4 Pariah ($3.60)

Happy to back the Snowdens, co-trainer Peter Snowden a master trainer of youngsters, and tip Pariah to get the win and take over favouritism in 2017 Golden Rose odds for a fortnight’s time. This Redoute’s Choice colt has plenty of class and gets the run of the race from the nice barrier (3). Outstanding record at Rosehill with his only loss being the Golden Slipper 11th when a mud track got the better of him. Back to his best first-up with success in the San Domenico Stakes over 1100m her. Blake Shinn stays on, he’ll be fitter for the run and is a Group 1 placegetter.

2nd

#1 Invader ($16)

Nice price on offer for Pariah’s stablemate Invader and it could be a Snowden-trained quinella. No doubt this son of Snitzel will be better getting out over 1400m – 1600m, but second-up he’s in the mix. Returned with a sixth in the Show County Quality behind Deploy, a run that was better than it looks on paper as he was beaten only 2.4 lengths. Group 1 winner over the 1400m in the ATC Sires’ during April and second in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes over 1600m after that. First run at Rosehill and is worth a tickle at the odds based on class alone.

3rd

#5 Menari ($2.50)

Plenty of boxes ticked by the favourite who could take some beating after the good The Rosebud win here first-up. Will be improving off that and gets in far better in the weights this time around. Was runner-up to Pariah back in late January, but had his measure in the Golden Slipper being a proven wet tracker. Wide draw to overcome, but the weight relief makes him the danger if he gets a clear run.
