As expected the resuming Team Snowden-trained Pariah has opened clear favourite in 2017 San Domenico Stakes betting to win first-up at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.
A 10-starter field of new season three-year-olds is engaged for Rosehill Race 7 at 3:45pm (AEST) – the Group 3 $150,000 San Domenico Stakes (1100m), including Pariah in the outside alley.
The smart son of Redoute’s Choice chases his first win since taking out the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes (1100m) on debut at the same track and distance back in late January.
Best known for his second to Catchy in Caulfield’s Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) during the autumn, Pariah is out to atone for his last start 11th to She Will Reign in the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) where a Heavy (10) track got the better of him.
The improver looked back to his best in two recent Randwick trials, including a second behind the superlative mare Winx over 1000m at Randwick on August 8, and will be hard to beat resuming on the weekend.
The bookies have reacted to his recent heat performances accordingly with Pariah sitting top of the latest San Domenico Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $2.80 for the win.
Occupying the second line of San Domenico Stakes betting this Sydney Spring Racing Carnival at $4.50 is fellow Group 1 placegetter Tulip.
Getting the inside run from barrier one, the Lindsay Park-trained Pierro filly came off a Blue Diamond Stakes fourth in Melbourne to win the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill in March.
From there she finished third to She Will Reign in the Golden Slipper Stakes and then stepped-up in distance for a credible fifth in the wet to Invader in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) last start on April 1.
Tulip had a Cranbourne trial when runner-up to stablemate Formality over 1000m earlier this month, the form of that heat franked when the winner took out the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) first-up at Randwick last Saturday.
A further three hopefuls are also at single-figures in the San Domenico Stakes markets this season including Condor Heroes and Jorda at an equal $7.50.
Gerald Ryan saddles-up Not A Single Doubt colt Condor Heroes, a first-up winner at Warwick Farm over the 1100m last preparation.
He went on to finish runner-up to Property in the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) during ‘The Championships’ and has had two trials to bring him on fitness wise this weekend.
Lightly-raced Exceed And Excel filly Jorda, representing Godolphin, could be the surprise runner here having just her second career start.
The untapped youngster took out the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) at Randwick on debut last spring and races for the first time since here.
Rounding out the hopes under $10 is then the Lindsay Park-trained Madeenaty ($9) who, along with Tulip, is also accepted for a Moonee Valley race on Saturday.
