Benjamin Smith’s class mare In Her Time made it four straight wins with a beautiful all-the-way success at Rosehill Gardens in the Millie Fox Stakes 2017 results.
Continuing to progress in fine fashion, the four-year-old daughter of Time Thief came into the $200,000 Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) on the back of an earlier Group 2 Sydney win.
She narrowly held on at Randwick at the start of the month to take out the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m) carrying 54kg and went up to 56kg for the Millie Fox.
Despite the weight and the nasty wide alley for her Hobartville Stakes Day assignment, In Her Time didn’t put a foot wrong and was ridden to perfection by Joshua Parr.
“She’s very good and she keeps improving and I think she’ll get even better than this as well,” the Newcastle-based Smith said post-win.
It was the Ron Quinton-trained Daysee Doom up in class from gate two who jumped best out of the barriers, but Parr was quick on the scene rolling forward aboard In Her Time to take up the position of pacesetter.
In Her Time was there to run down, leading all the way with I Am Zelady travelling second and Daysee Doom on her outside positioned third.
Into the turn the eventual winner was up front as Daysee Doom looked poised to strike.
Giving a beautiful kick, In Her Time surged clear and did it again at good odds running out the distance no issue for a nearly three length win over a fast-finishing Team Hawkes-trained Euro Angel who as brave first-up running second, but no match for the fit winner.
Rounding out the Millie Fox Stakes trifecta in third was the progressive Daysee Doom with apprentice Andrew Adkins in the saddle after the on-pace ride.
“The way the race panned out, Josh was able to get to the front,” winning trainer Smith said.
“She’s been perfect since her last run and continues to hold her weight well and just loves racing.”
Smith wasn’t keen to lock in a definite autumn campaign and said he hadn’t thought too much about the $600,000 Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) back at Rosehill on March 11 until the Millie Fox success.
“I think she’s a better sprinter, but the way she raced today might cause us to reassess,” he said.
“There are plenty of options available for her and we can even give her a little let-up, which we’ll probably do.”
