The race’s record eight-time winning trainer Gai Waterhouse is back with seven of the 117 Queen Elizabeth Stakes 2017 nominations this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

One of four elite level features held at Royal Randwick on April 8 as part of The Championships Day 2 line-up, the $1 million Group 1 Coolmore Legacy Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) has attracted plenty of headliners at nomination stage this week.
Waterhouse has prepared an incredible eight previous Queen Of The Turf Stakes winners with: Light Up The World (1995), Danglissa (2000), Sorrento (2001), In A Bound (2004), More Joyous (2011-2012), Diamond Drille (2014) and most recently Amanpour (2015).
Now training in partnership with former racing manager Adrian Bott, the team have seven Queen Of The Turf Stakes nominations in 2017 led by dual Group 1 winning filly Global Glamour.
The three-year-old daughter of Star Witness won the Flight Stakes in Sydney last October, backing up a week later for a Thousand Guineas win over the mile at Caulfield during a stellar spring.
Her latest run was a second in the $2 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) at the Gold Coast in January and she is set to race again this Saturday in either the Apollo Stakes against Winx of the Light Fingers Stakes at Randwick.
Other key Waterhouse-trained Queen Of The Turf Stakes nominations this season include All Aged stakes winner English and fellow four-year-old Sweet Redemption who has been in top form over the summer.
There hasn’t been a three-year-old Queen Of The Turf Stakes winner since Forensics (2008), but there are 50 in the mix this year.
Along with Global Glamour other key fillies nominated to take on the older mares in the race include the Shane Nichols-trained I Am A Star who won the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) during the Melbourne Cup Carnival, and the Chris Waller-trained duo of Foxplay and Omei Sword.
Foxwedge filly Foxplay won the Group 2 Furious Stakes – Tea Rose Stakes double at Randwick last September before a fourth to Global Glamour in the Thousand Guineas.
She returns this weekend in the Light Fingers Stakes, which could also mark the delayed return to the track of Waller’s Golden Rose runner-up Omei Sword.
Both fillies also hold entries for the Doncaster Mile on April 1 and Australian Oaks over the mile and a half on April 8.
Waller is yet to train a Queen Of The Turf Stakes winner, but this season is in contention with a total of 11 hopefuls that also includes Winx.
The dual Cox Plate champion however is an unlikely final acceptor with the $4 million Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at weight-for-age on the same day marked for her autumn finale.
Other standout entries include lightly-raced Schweppes Oaks winner Abbey Marie, Magic Millions 3YO Guineas winner last time out Flying Jess, Stuart Webb’s first-up Manfred Stakes winner from last weekend Legless Veuve and former Perth Cup winner Real Love for Darren Weir.
