The 2016 Jungle Mist Classic brings Railway Stakes Day to a close on Saturday at Ascot Racecourse, betting tips and the latest odds for the fillies-and-mares’ feature found below.
Due to jump at 5:40pm (W.A. time) as Ascot Race 9 on the weekend, this year’s $100,000 Listed Crown Perth Jungle Mist Classic (1200m) field features a full 16 hopefuls with markets at Ladbrokes.com.au led by Let It Slip ($3.50).
Set to get the run of the race from barrier two, Daniel Pearce’s Lark Hill-trained Not A Single Doubt four-year-old returns to stakes class after her third at the track / distance on October 29 in a Benchmark 72+.
Ascot has produced two wins and two thirds from six starts for the progressive mare and with the perfect barrier, she’s a big chance to post her first win at the track since winning the Listed Placid Ark Stakes (1200m) at this meeting 12 months ago.
The dangers looking at the Jungle Mist Classic odds include the Fred Kersley-trained Lonhro four-year-old Jestajingle ($4.60) in gate four, Grant & Alana Williams’ returning La Trice third placegetter from January Cosmic Storm ($6) and the Simon Miller-trained last start winner at the track / distance Meteoroid ($7).
So will the best in Jungle Mist Classic betting get the job done or is the value found further down the markets from the likes of Uptown Funk ($12) racing first-up since the winter or even the in-form six-year-old from Bunbury Krakka Vision ($34)?
She’s yet to win first-up but think this five-year-old will come back in brilliant order after the lengthy let-up. Last start was back on Perth Cup Day (January 2) when third in the Group 3 La Trice Classic (1800m). Has had two Lark Hill trials in October ahead of her return including a nice win over 950m. She’s proven at Ascot and the distance, while short of her preferred, should be right after so long off the scene. Oaks winner at Blemont in 2015 and has class plus claims with William Pike in the saddle.
Think the bookies have the best fancies pretty well sorted and it’s hard to go past the shorties in the market to finish in the money. Barrier four is ideal for Kersley’s nicely-bred four-year-old. Peter Hall, of Delicacy fame, stays in the saddle after the duo won first-up over 1000m at the track on November 9. The 2.5 length margin suggests she’s ready to fly again over 1200m and finally post a win over further than 1000m.
Favourite is deservingly so based on her sprint form. Gun gate, is on the improve and eyeing a run in next weekend’s Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m). Needs to show-up to get into that field and after the third here on October 29, she’s been freshened-up so can be competitive for sure.
