The two-year-olds take to the Flemington track in the first on Emirates Stakes Day this Saturday for the 2016 Maribyrnong Plate, betting tips and the latest odds for the set weights sprint found below.
Kicking off the final Melbourne Cup Carnival meeting as Flemington Race 1 at 12:15pm (AEDT), there are 13 youngsters left in the mix for the $150,000 Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) after the early scratching of Lone Eagle (2) and Pure Emotion (9).
Heading the Maribyrnong Plate odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying an equal $4.40 for the win are the only two non-maidens in the field Azazel and Wait For No One.
Both come off debut wins with the Tony McEvoy-trained Snitzel colt Azazel winning Moonee Valley’s Inglis race on Cox Plate Day by one and three-quarter lengths, and Lindsay Park’s Lonhro colt Wait For No One a Black-Type winner at Caulfield back on October 8.
So will the two best in Maribyrnong Plate betting be fighting it out for the win or is there value tipping an upset from the likes of the John O’Shea-trained Exceed And Excel filly Resin ($5.50) or even the rails-drawn Ten Carat ($31) for Anthony Cummings?
Green on debut when well-supported for the win, but still won by 1.75 lengths over 1000m at the Valley. He came off a trial win at Cranbourne in the mud, so should be able to handle the same distance down the straight. Good mid-field draw, Luke Currie stays on and is the one to beat after kicking off with that strong win.
Widely drawn, but down the straight it’s open from any alley. Kerrin McEvoy is absolutely on fire this Cup Carnival and gets the debut run on this Pluck colt. Un-trialled, but genuine hope of getting into the money with his stablemate.
The longest-priced runner in the race, will be flying from barrier two on debut. With so many unraced youngsters at shorter odds, crazy the price offered on this Robbie Laing-trained colt who is impeccably bred being a son of Sepoy. Ran second to Azazel in an 800m Cranbourne trial in the wet, and that form held when the winner took out his debut. Genuine Place chance.
