2016 Dane Ripper Stakes Field Features Ghisoni

Classy young filly Ghisoni is one of the headline acceptors for the Dane Ripper Stakes 2016 at Eagle Farm Racecourse on the extended Stradbroke Handicap Day card on Saturday.

Due to kick-off the Group racing action as Eagle Farm Race 3 at 11:55am (AEST) on the bumper 10-race program, this year’s $200,000 Group 2 Bundaberg Rum Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) has attracted a final field of 15 fillies and mares.

The set weights plus penalties sprint is a traditional Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival lead-up to the $500,000 Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m), held this year back at Eagle Farm on June 25.

Four of the past seven Tattersall’s Tiara winners came off a Dane Ripper Stakes run including Red Tracer (2013) and Cosmic Endeavour (2014) who both completed the double.

Current favourite in all-in Tattersall’s Tiara odds this year is Saturday’s Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap favourite Azkadellia, while Ghisoni is the next best in betting for end-of-month showdown.

A winner of four of her six starts to date, lightly-raced Lonhro filly Ghisoni comes off a win in the Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on May 28.

She has her first Eagle Farm run on the weekend and is drawn wide out in gate 14 (of 15), but is in flying form and still the one to beat with James McDonald retaining the ride.

The next best out of the Glenlogan Park Stakes backing up in the Dane Ripper on Saturday are runner-up Cradle Me and the third placed Beatniks drawn nicely in gates one and four respectively.

David Pfieffer’s veteran seven-year-old Easy Rocking mare Cradle Me lines-up for her 50th career run on the weekend and is looking for her maiden win since the Listed Canterbury Classic (1200m) at Randwick back on Boxing Day last year.

Beatniks is prepared by local horseman Steven O’Dea, the Haradasun five-year-old chasing her first Eagle Farm win at her fifth start on the course over her pet distance (6-2-2-2).

Also coming off a nice lead-up run into the Dane Ripper Stakes field is the Kris Lees-trained Newcastle galloper Onemorezeta.

The four-year-old daughter of Onemorenomore comes off three second place finishes including behind Danish Twist in the Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) at Scone in mid-May from a wide alley (13 of 15).

Sydney’s best Chris Waller has enjoyed much success in the Dane Ripper Stakes in recent years with back-to-back wins by Red Tracer (2012-13) and is back in 2016 with two chances.

Hugh Bowman rides Amicus from gate five, the Group 2 winner looking to improve on a seventh in the Glenlogan Park Stakes, while stablemate Telepathic (12) is first-up since the autumn.

Other notable hopes include Glenlogan Park Stakes fourth placed Dane Shadow mare Just A Blur (2), Robert Smerdon’s Snippetson filly My Poppette who won the Group 2 Moonee Valley Fillies Classic (1600m) last spring and the consistent Bradbury’s Luck four-year-old Elegant Composure who has won six of her seven starts to date.
