Only six runners have been included in nominations for Saturday’s featured 2016 Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) at Doomben Racecourse; highlighted by the pending appearance of some of the Brisbane Winter Carnival’s most exciting racing prospects.

Fell Swoop was unlucky not to post a maiden win at the highest level through the recent Autumn Carnival and has been included in nominations for his Queensland racing debut in the 2016 Victory Stakes.
Fell Swoop has fast become the stable star for Canberra-based trainer Matt Dale and has posted a commendable eight wins and three minors through only thirteen competitive starts.
Capping a strong 2015 campaign with consecutive wins in the Listed Cup Club Stakes (1200m) and the Listed Testa Rossa Stakes (1200m), the Not A Single Doubt gelding produced a big late turn of foot to finish an agonizingly-close second in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) first-up on February 27th.
Progressing to a luckless but impressive performance for fourth in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m), Fell Swoop was arguably at his best when finishing second to champion sprinter Chautauqua in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) on April 2nd.
Leading Queensland trainer Tony Gollan is set to launch a two-pronged attack on the feature race after including both Didntcostalot and Fontelina in 2016 Victory Stakes nominations.
Didntcostalot will contest the 2016 Victory Stakes first-up but arguably found career-best form to date through his most recent preparation.
Claiming ten wins and seven minors through his 37 career starts, Didntcostalot beat a classy field to the line in the Aitkenvale Health Centre Handicap (1110m) on October 31st before producing a big late effort to win the Group 3 George Moore Stakes (1200m) on November 28th.
Having returned to the paddock after running sixth in the Magic Millions Sprint (1100m), Didntcostalot is likely to be partnered by Tegan Harrison this weekend.
Fontelina will returned for his second preparation for Gollan this weekend and should prove tough to beat under the conditions of the Victory Stakes.
Fontelina produced a few good performances through his first five start preparation in Queensland; most notably a gutsy third in the George Moore Stakes and a win in the Listed Lough Neagh Stakes (1350m) on December 12th.
Knoydart has been a strong and consistent performer for Godolphin north of the border in recent years and has been included in 2016 Victory Stakes nominations.
Running fourth in each of the Victory Stakes and Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m), and second in the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) most notably through the 2015 edition of the Brisbane winter, Knoydart only made two appearances at the races in spring, highlighted by third in the Group 2 Gilgai Stakes (1200m) on October 4th.
Clearly needing the run when beating only one rival home in the TJ Smith Stakes first-up, Knoydart savaged the line for second in the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes (1200m) a fortnight ago.
