Twelve talented runners remain in contention for Tuesday’s Listed John Dillon Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield Racecourse; offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Durendal was a late scratching as favourite for Saturday’s Group 2 Australia Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley and remains clear $2.90 favourite in 2016 John Dillon Stakes betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of Duke Of Brunswick ($4) and Tried And Tired ($6).
Will Durendal justify favouritism and win the John Dillon Stakes or will one of his talented rivals find the line in the clear?
Durendal has returned to racing in typically slick form this time, is drawn ideally on the rails and will be very hard to beat over 1400m in the John Dillon Stakes. Returning for eighth in a Caulfield minor over 1100m in September, Durendal has been kept to a light work load and has had his races spaced; running only six times through four months. Aiming for his fourth-consecutive win in the John Dillon Stakes, the son of Medaglia D’Oro strolled home to win a pair of minor Victorian sprints before making a successful return to black type company in the Group 3 Standish Handicap (1200m) last time out on January 1st.
Tudor is one of the more formed horses confirmed in the John Dillon Stakes field, carries winning black type form into the race and arguably offers punters the best value for money at current $13 for success or $3.70 to finish in the first three. Posting three wins and a further six minors through 23 competitive starts, the Strategic entire placed fourth in the George Watson BM96 (1400m) on New Year’s Day before returning to the winner’s circle in the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes (1400m) on the 16th.
Nicoscene has steadily built to the task this time and appears as though he will be primed for a big performance in the John Dillon Stakes. Failing to figure late when 13th in the Listed Dilmah Earl Grey Stakes (1000m) first-up on Crown Oaks Day, the Nicconi entire progressed to fifth in a Moonee Valley BM90 race over 1200m on November 28th; placing sixth in the Listed Christmas Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on Boxing Day before finishing second in the Billie Swan BM90 (1200m) on January 9th. Nicoscene will leave from the ideal barrier 5 with Dwayne Dunn aboard and a very manageable 54kgs.
