Fame Game is currently available at 2015 Melbourne Cup odds of $4 and is a dominant favourite to take out the race, but rival jockey Tommy Berry is adamant that he would rather be on Trip To Paris in the Group 1 event at Flemington on Tuesday.

Fame Game gained plenty of admirers when he flew home in the final 200 metres of the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) at Caulfield on October 10 to stamp himself as a clear Melbourne Cup favourite, but Trip To Paris actually ran faster closing sectionals and was only narrowly denied by Mongolian Khan.
Berry believes that is was Trip To Paris that actually produced the best Melbourne Cup trial in the Caulfield Cup trip and he told Racing.com that Fame Game is well under the odds in current Melbourne Cup betting markets.
“He’s had a very easy run, he barely got out until the 200m mark and really you want a run like I had,” Berry said.
“You want them to have a nice solid run we’re they’re hitting the line and running through the line and then have your horse pull up and have a nice blow, come through the run well and lose a bit of weight and tighten up for the Melbourne Cup.
“Going into the race off a run where he only got out at the 200 metres and flashed home late, that’s not a warm up race for me and I don’t like that going into a Melbourne Cup, but I’m only young and he might come out and blow us away but I think he’s way under the odds.”
Trip To Paris had his final piece of track work before the Melbourne Cup this morning with Berry in the saddle and the young hoop said that he was delighted with the feel that he received from the son of Champs Elysees.
Berry was quick to pay credit to the work that trainer Ed Dunlop has done with Trip To Paris and he could not be happier with his mount ahead of the 2015 Melbourne Cup at Flemington on Tuesday.
“He felt very sharp to me and I think he’s definitely come on since the Caulfield Cup,” Berry said.
“He’s a very easy horse to ride.
“He’s relaxed and barely picks up the bridle and he sprints when you ask him to and he’s very push-button.
It’s a lot easier riding a horse like him then riding when that you’ve got to try and get to settle, or try and run out the distance.
“This horse ticks all the boxes.”
Trip To Paris is currently available at 2015 Melbourne Cup odds of $9 with Ladbrokes and he is on the second line of betting behind Fame Game ($4).
