Rosehill Scratchings – 26/09/2015
Total Scratchings: 2
Race 1 (12:40pm) – $85,000 Rydges Parramatta Handicap (2000m)
- No current scratchings
The Sydney action kicks off with eight stayers facing off in a BM80 and it is a wide open market with all but one horse under double figures. Narrow $4.80 favourite is Dance Of Heroes for the state’s best, Chris Waller, the galloper yet to win from four starts at Rosehill. Waller also saddles-up Loophole ($7.50) who drops from the 61kg top weight to 55kg thanks to the Rory Hutchings claim and last start winner Four Carat ($7) with the rails run.
Race 2 (1:15pm) – $200,000 Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m)
- No current scratchings
First of the Group features the Stan Fox features just six three-year-olds led by Waller’s Caulfield Guineas top fancy Press Statement ($1.35) who is odds-on and firming to enjoy the extra metres here as a previous Group 1 winner of the mile as a two-year-old.
Race 3 (1:50pm) – $125,000 Group 3 Dilmah Tea Colin Stephen Quality (2400m)
- #7 Turner Bayou (2)
Small fields continue for the Colin Stephen for possible 2015 The Metropolitan hopes at Randwick Saturday week with eight left, the favourite of which is the flying Amelie’s Star ($3.30) shooting for four straight wins. Hot on her heels though is the Gai Waterhouse-trained Bohemian Lily ($3.60) who should appreciate a firmer track today so long as the weather holds.
Race 4 (2:30pm) – $100,000 Listed Reginald Allen Quality (1400m)
- No current scratchings
One of the day’s largest Rosehill race fields, there is 11 in this handicap showdown where Waterhouse’s last start Warwick Farm winning filly Flamboyant Lass is at a firming $2.60 to back-up from that Heavy-track success and win her maiden Rosehill assignment.
Race 5 (3:05pm) – $200,000 Group 3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m)
- No current scratchings
A dozen stayers make-up the field for this three-year-olds’ feature including current $3.60 favourite Vanbrugh in gate five for jockey Hugh Bowman, Waller’s colt coming off a mile win at Warwick Farm from the start of the month. His biggest threat is market mover Man Of Choice ($4.40) in barrier three who also comes off a win over 1600m when saluting at Kembla Grange by nearly four lengths.
Race 6 (3:45pm) – $400,000 Group 2 Ronald McDonald House Westmead Golden Pendant (1400m)
- No current scratchings
The day’s marquee race has attracted only eight female gallopers but what it lacks in numbers it makes up for in class. Waller prepares the odds-on favourite Catkins ($1.65) who was runner-up in the race last year and comes off a tidy Sheraco Stakes win when going out at a much juicier $5. To salute for the punters she needs to hold off last year’s winner Arabian Gold ($5) from the inside alley and market mover Slightly Sweet ($9) who is second-up after a fourth in the Sheraco.
Race 7 (4:25pm) – $175,000 Group 2 Leonay Plumbing Shannon Stakes (1500m)
- No current scratchings
This handicap clash has 11 hopefuls and the one to beat is hard to pick out with so many genuine hopes so close in the markets including co-$5 favourites Ninth Legion coming off a very close first-up third to Winx in the Group 2 Theo Marks stakes (1300m) at the track and the Ciaron Maher-trained Melbourne raider Akavoroun who was runner-up to Disposition at Flemington a fortnight ago.
Race 8 (5:05pm) – $85,000 TAB More Than Just Winning Handicap (1400m)
- #3 Slate On Edge (15)
Closing the card is this BM85 with 14 left to face off, the favourite being Music Magnate ($4) who ran third at the track over 200m less in similar company with improvement expected here. The main dangers are winner of that race Good Project ($5) who has a wide barrier to overcome this weekend and Wine Tales ($6) out to atone for a seventh over the Randwick mile from the start of the month.
