Trainer Chris Waller has been understandably thrilled with the results posted by Metallic Crown through his short racing career so far, and is confident his Sydney form will stack up in his debut below in the border in Saturday’s Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m).
Metallic Crown is yet to finish outside the first three through his four start career so far, and franked his impressive form when making a successful transition to black type racing with success in the Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m) last time out on September 5th.
Conceding the field confirmed for the 2015 Caulfield Guineas is talent rich and his runner will need plenty of luck in transit from a wide draw, Waller told Racing Ahead he has been pleased with Metallic Crown’s continued progression and is confident he will prove up to the mark on Saturday.
“Barrier 15 of 16 is not easy because it means you’re having to do a bit of work at certain parts of the race,” Waller said.
“His last two starts have been very good. He looked beaten last start in a fairly good field and then just came again late.
“He’s certainly an in-form horse coming through. Different form lines from the better Sydney three-year-olds but all the three-year-old form in Sydney is certainly very strong.”
Performing well in a number of Sydney barrier trials prior to his competitive debut, Metallic Crown immediately stamped his claims as one to watch when running on for a close third behind Sebring Sun in the TAB.com.au Maiden (1200m) first-up on July 29th.
Jumping from the gates well in his next start; the Schweppes Maiden Plate (1350m) at Canterbury a fortnight later, Metallic Crown received a dream run in transit before mustering an impressive turn of foot to run second to Devil Hawk.
Having broken through for a maiden race win in the TAB Place Multi Maiden Handicap (1300m) in his only other start prior to the Ming Dynasty Quality, Metallic Crown has been confirmed to be partnered by Jim Cassidy in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude.
Ladbrokes.com.au is offering the best 2015 Caulfield Guineas Prelude odds, for which Metallic Crown can be taken at a quote of $14 for success or $4.30 to finish in the first three.
