Tinto Carries Top Weight to 2015 Magic Millions Stayers Cup Win

Rex Lipp’s classy Group 1 winning mare Tinto showed off her class in the Magic Millions Stayers Cup 2015 at the Gold Coast today beating home a good field carrying the 59.5kg top weight thanks to a gun ride from young hoop Tim Bell.

The daughter of Red Dazzler won the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm during the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival last year and bought that form back as a furnished four-year-old this summer.

Last time out she won again in the Listed Bernborough Handicap (1625m) carrying 58kg with Bell aboard, the hoop retaining the ride for her Magic Millions test fourth-up with one and a half kilos extra.

Tinto ($4.80) was ready to peak fourth up and was crying out for the extra metres she got in the $200,000 Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort & Spa Magic Millions Stayers Cup (1800m) where she recorded her third win from four starts on the Gold Coast track.

Not only did Tinto have the top weight but she also drew the outside barrier in the 14 starter field, a well-timed and patient ride from Bell seeing her cross from the wide gate to get the fence.

Bell rode her forward and she was sixth by the first corner trying to get a spot one off the fence while Tornado Miss set a blistering pace up front.

Tinto found the fence from the outside gate and settled into fifth mid-race, holding that position after following the Tommy Berry-ridden Danas Best into the race.

Bell was able to get her out as they cornered for home, the frontrunner Tornado Miss quickly tackled by those just off her.

Tinto came flashing up on the inside to put the pressure on the leader on the straight Our Boy Nicholas who was coming off a Class 6 win at the Sunshine Coast from Boxing Day.

She ran him down to hit the front over the final 50m and stormed home with plenty left in the tank to beat home the Toby Edmonds-trained Our Boy Nicholas ($6) while Bjorn Baker’s Snitzel four-year-old Off The Rails ($8) was a close third in a photo to finish off the trifecta.

“Things went to plan for a change,” Bell said after his cracking ride.

“Credit to the horse but she’s a gem this one.

“With the 59.5kg she deserves every credit.”

Passed in for $6,500 from the Magic Millions Sales, Tinto has now won in excess of $700,000 for connections.

While a trip to Sydney for The Championships this autumn could be considered, she certainly looks to have a bigger race win in her at with something like the $300,000 Group 2 Brisbane Cup (2400m) at Doomben on June 6, Stradbroke Handicap Day, a nice option later in the year.

Don’t forget that $1 can win your $1 million in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic this afternoon only at Ladbrokes.com.au with the Megafecta promotion!
