The three-year-olds’ racing action steps up a notch at Caulfield Racecourse on Saturday with two events for this age group taking place including the Quezette Stakes 2014 for the fillies, tips for which are found below.
There are 12 three-year-old fillies making up the field for this year’s $150,000 Group 3 Lister Quezette Stakes (1100m) that features some livewire hopes for the $500,000 Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) back at the track on October 11.
Royal Snitzel is the firm $2.90 favourite in Quezette Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au, Mick Price’s daughter of Snitzel looking to retain her undefeated status.
She’s won both her starts so far most recently over this track and distance on July 5 with Dale Smith retaining the ride again for her opening black-type assignment.
Following the top fancy in the Quezette Stakes odds are then the likes of Group 3 winner London Lolly ($5.50), Lloyd Kennewell’s Adelaide raider Sunset Rock ($7.50) who has also won a black-type at Morphettville and the Shea Eden-trained Novel Dancer ($8) after their third win from as many starts.
But will a single figure chance win the Golden Rose and Thousand Guineas lead-up?
Or will there be an upset Quezette Stakes result this year from the likes of Robert Smerdon’s Empress O’Reilly (411) or even recent Bendigo winner Sabatini ($19) drawn well in barrier four?
#3 Royal Snitzel ($2.90)
Think this speedy favourite will be hard to hold off with regular rider Smith to take her towards the front from barrier six where her fast legs will be an advantage, Donald win on debut was improved upon when she went up over the 1100m at Caulfield – which she sees again here – on July 5 for a half length win, has had a brief freshen-up so not over raced, steps up in class but should handle it.
#1 London Lolly ($5.50)
First-up run from this Team Hawkes-trained Charge Forward filly whose latest run produced a Group 3 win in the Breeders Stakes over 1200m in Adelaide, that was in March so she’s had a nice break, class is there from that race as she defeated subsequent Group 1 winner Go Indy Go, nicely bred and likes to go forward but there’s some pace on her inside so from gate eight will need to be versatile enough to sit and come home.
#10 Kalabek ($8.50)
Good price for Brent Stanley’s Wanted filly first-up here after a failed Doomben run in the Lancaster Stakes back in May, won on debut before that at Caulfield beating Mossfun by half a length after missing the kick and doing lots of work to get there, will appreciate getting back to the track here for another first-up run, running can be everything in these early season showdowns and she’ll get the inside run if she wants it from barrier one with Damien Oliver in the saddle but she’s a get back filly so how she handles the position is key.
