David Vandyke’s Caulfield Cup chance this spring Prince Cheri is early favourite for their weekend assignment in Sydney sitting top of the Kingston Town Stakes 2013 odds.

Saturday’s $125,000 Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) will be the third run for Lando four-year-old Prince Cheri this season, the untapped stallion having had two good runs in non -black type company.

Their first was a third to fellow Kingston Town Stakes rival Pretty Pins, a $61 roughie for Saturday, over the Randwick mile when defeated a mere long neck in their first run in five months.

Prince Cheri, nominated for all the Sydney and Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival staying majors this year, then improved on August 31 to win a benchmark 95 over 1500m at Rosehill.

They return to the track for the Kingston Town Stakes which will be the first stakes assignment for the lightly raced French import previously prepared by Melbourne Cup winning trainer Mikel Delzangles.

Current markets for the last at Rosehill this weekend have Prince Cheri installed as the $3.80 favourite despite their wide barrier 13 of 15 draw.

It’s a relatively open market then with four other single figure fancies:

• #1 Julienas ($6.50) – Gai Waterhouse’s talented import carries the 59kg here with Tommy Berry to ride but has class to deserve that weight, latest run was a credible fourth in the Wyong Cup over 2100m on September 6, on a short back-up but drop from the 61kg they carried there and go back to 2000m so should be sharp
• #4 Less Is More ($7.50) – Stablemate to the favourite, Vandyke has also paid up for this French import who won their latest start beating Ironstein in the Listed Premier’s Cup (1800m) at Rosehill on August 31, in great form, distance and track suit, and carry a manageable 55kg, genuine shot
• #2 Pelicano ($9) – Tony McEvoy’s consistent gelding has stakes winning form at this track and distance in the Parramatta Cup from the autumn, latest run was a good fourth over 1700m at Caulfield and will appreciate getting more distance here
• #6 Honorius ($9) – David Payne-trained local four-year-old was a first-up winner over 1400m at Rosehill two back before running sixth to rival Less Is More in the Premier’s Cup which they are out to improve on, good stakes form up to 2200m so distance will work in their favour, expect improvement

For punters searching for a little more value double figure chances with genuine claims in the Kingston Town Stakes betting markets then include the Chris Waller-trained import I’m Imposing ($11) who is on the improve, the in-form Lucripetous ($13) after their third on the trot and the rails-drawn Polish Knight ($14) who was eighth in the Premier’s Cup last start.
