2013 Toy Show Quality Betting – Royal Descent Nears Odds-On

Last seen winning the Australian Oaks in April, the Chris Waller-trained mare Royal Descent is set to start favourite in her first-up assignment in the Toy Show Quality 2013 at Warwick Farm this weekend.

Kicking off the black type racing action at the meeting, the $125,000 Group 3 Kari Aboriginal Resources Inc. Toy Show Quality (1300m) has drawn 10 final acceptors, the favourite of which is Redoute’s Choice four-year-old Royal Descent.

Despite being drawn wide in the ‘visitor’s gate’ 10 with the 59kg topweight to overcome the bookies are taking no chances with Australian Oaks winner Royal Descent who is the short $2.10 favourite in Toy Show Quality betting.

She’ll be ridden for the third time on the trot by Nash Rawiller who rode her for the Adrian Knox Stakes before her 10 length Oaks romp in the mud at Randwick on April 20.

Royal Descent trialled well over 900m at Rosehill on August 5 and while she’ll be better getting up over bigger distances like the mile and a half for a possible shot at the $2.5 million Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) in Melbourne in October, she’s won over 1200m and 1400m before so can be competitive resuming over 1300m here.

According to the Toy Show Quality betting markets Royal Descent’s biggest threat comes from the inside alley with the Gai Waterhouse-trained No Looking Back paying $4.40 for an upset.

Set to have Tommy Berry aboard the Redoute’s Choice mare meets the favourite a full five kilos better in the weights with No Looking Back getting in on the 54kg minimum.

They haven’t won a race since the Listed Carrington Stakes (1000m) on New Year’s Day but the 2013 Blue Diamond Stakes runner-up caught the eye on August 2 when taking out a Randwick trial over 1000m by nearly two lengths.

The only other hopeful under $10 is then Hidden Kisses ($7.50) in gate nine with Glyn Schofield to ride.

Chris Waller’s recent stable acquisition joined his stables over the winter from Rob Heathcote in Brisbane, the Hidden Dragon six-year-old a narrow last start winner at Randwick over 1200m.

She carried 58kg to victory over Next The Universe (55kg) then and will relish the drop back to 54kg on Saturday.

Other notable hopes that could prove the value bet of the day then include the in-form David Payne-trained Queen’s Elect ($10) coming off back-to-back 1400m wins in Sydney, last year’s runner-up Crafty Irna ($12) and even the Bjorn Baker-trained Follonica ($19).
