This Saturday, May 11, the final major Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival meeting will run at Morphettville Racecourse with 2013 The Goodwood Day to feature five Group races – tips for which are listed below.

Racing at Morphettville is set to get underway at 12:30pm with the $115,000 Group 3 National Stakes (1200m) for the two-year-olds where the undefeated The Huntress is set to start favourite.

There are then five other black type events on the card before the day’s marquee race runs.

Highlights include Race 2 – the $115,000 Group 3 SA Fillies Classic (2500m) featuring a number of young fillies that could head north to Brisbane for the 2013 Queensland Oaks next month, and the $15,000 Group 3 RA Lee Stakes (1600m) running as Race 6 where John Sadler’s reigning champ Linton is back to defend their title.

Then of course the big one all the punters will be waiting for is Morphettville Race 7 at 4:05pm – the $500,000 Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m).

Sixteen sprinters remain in contention for the state’s richest race including the $2.10 favourite Moment Of Change out to hand trainer Peter Moody with successive wins in the event following the success of the now retired icon Black Caviar 12 months ago.

Morphettville Racing Tips – Saturday May 11, 2013

Race 1 (12:30pm) – $115,000 Group 3 National Stakes (1200m)

• Scratched: #4 Made Of Ice (8)
• Tip: #2 The Huntress ($3.20) from #5 Bring A Ring ($4.20) and #1 Iconic ($7)

The Huntress (barrier four) is yet to taste defeat with two Melbourne wins to their name heading into this so form and draw is right. Bring A Ring beaten favourite last two times out, a few will be willing to forgive.

Race 2 (1:05pm) – $115,000 Group 3 Sportingbet SA Fillies Classic (2500m)

• Scratched: #12 Irun (10)
• Tip: #3 La Zuma ($3.80) from #6 Happy Highway ($7.50) and #1 Summerbliss ($2.70)

Summbliss is favourite and will appreciate the drop back in class here after Group 1 runs but might struggle after being up for a long time. Zabeel filly La Zuma meanwhile looks prime after relishing the extra distance to finish third in the Group 1 Schweppes Oaks last start. Happy Highway comes off two wins.

Race 3 (1:40pm) – $115,000 Group 3 $115,000 Group 3 Queen’s Cup (2500m)

• Scratched: #10 Twin Soul (11), #12 Princess Deauville (13)
• Tip: #6 Shiny Buttons ($3.70) from #2 Muirfield ($7.50) and #3 Elldami ($17)

Shinny Buttons out to improve on their minor placing in the Warrnambool Cup and looks ready to peak after a couple of close calls. Muirfield in same boat after second in that race while Elldami adds value having won her over the mile and a half (2400m) before.

Race 4 (2:15pm) – $100,000 Listed Centaurea Stakes (2009m)

• Scratched: #8 Dowager Queen (12)
• Tip: #3 Friday Hussy ($9) from #2 Lake Sententia ($3.50) and #10 Freezy ($6)

Friday Hussy after their fourth straight and from barrier one that form cannot be ignored. Lake Sententia drops back in class having run third when beaten favourite over the Morphettville mile in Group 2 company last start. Freezy also flying after winning in Melbourne last start.

Race 5 (2:50pm) – $100,000 Listed Darley Laelia Stakes (1600m)

• Scratched: #1 Big Chill (8), #8 Miss Zenella (15), #9 Nautical (16), #13 Explosive Cross (12)
• Tip: #4 Coins ($3.30) from #5 Mybenz ($6) and #11 Keyarna Blue ($8.50)

Coins running really well in Melbourne and will need luck from the gate (13) but can overcome. Mybenz goes up to the mile after running second to Coins over 1400m at Flemington two back before turning the table to beat them home last start. Same quinella here – could be in either order too.

Race 6 (3:25pm) – $150,000 Group 3 RA Lee Stakes (1600m)

• Scratched: #5 Cosmic Causeway (6), #7 Oregon Spirit (9), #8 Midsummer Sun (2)
• Tip: #2 Linton ($2.15) from #10 General Peekay ($8.50) and #11 Lucky Penny ($5)

Linton won this last year and looks on track for a successful title defense after their win here over 1400m last start beating a similar field. General Peekay won against fellow 3YO’s last start in Group company last start and is after their third on the trot here from inside alley.

Race 7 (4:05pm) – $500,000 Group 1 The Distinctive Homes Goodwood (1200m)

• Scratched: #9 Shellscrape (2), #11 Zamorar (10)
• Tip: #7 Facile Tigre ($7.50) from #1 Moment Of Change ($2.10) and #17 Yosei ($8)

Race 8 (4:42pm) – $100,000 Listed Centrebet Proud Miss Stakes (1200m)

• Scratched: #14 Saturn Rock (12)
• Tip: #5 Tariana ($3.80) from #9 Endless Shadow ($13) and #8 Assertive Eagle ($19)

Tariana ready to peak after resuming last start, won twice at Caulfield last prep and can return to that form. Endless Shadow first-up and their summer form (in Brisbane) was also good with dual wins and two other minors.
