The price for Gerald Ryan’s classy young filly Snitzerland to break her Group 1 maiden status in this afternoon’s 2013 Robert Sangster Stakes continues to firm with the three-year-old remaining in odds-on territory.
There are 12 fillies and mares in this year’s edition of the $400,000 Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) which is due to light up Adelaide’s Morphettville Racecourse as Race 5 at 2:35pm (local time).
Dominating the Robert Sangster Stakes odds since markets on the classic, won 12 months ago by super mare Black Caviar, opened is Snitzel filly Snitzerland.
She’s a multiple Group 1 performer having finished second to Pierro in last year’s Golden Slipper, and also comes off an elite level second behind the talented Bel Sprinter in The Galaxy.
The Galaxy form was further spruiked when the winner went on to run third to Black Caviar in the TJ Smith Stakes and the bookies are tipping it to continue in South Australia with Snitzerland this afternoon.
After opening at $1.60 to win the Robert Sangster, which would be her second of the season following a big three length victory first-up in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m), Snitzerland has been well supported and is now into $1.55.
There has also been a tickle for Stuart Webb’s triple Group 1 winner Yosei in from $31 to $26 to break a lengthy winning drought, the Invincible Spirit five-year-old after her first turf triumph since the 2011 Tattersall’s Tiara.
The bulk of the other hopefuls meanwhile have lost favourtism and eased out in the markets.
Some of the more notable to go out in their prices for an upset over Snitzerland include Kulgrinda ($11 out to $14) who comes off a win in the RN Irwin Stakes over many of these and who is out to hand trainer Peter Moody with successive victories, the Races.com.au team’s tip to win Platelet ($9 out to $12), exciting local mare Avoid Lightning ($9 out to $12) and Victorian three-year-old Shamal Wind ($11 out to $13).
