Two quality mares are battling for favouritism in the 2013 Breeders Classic betting odds for this Saturday’s Rosehill Gardens meeting with the Chris Waller-trained Red Tracer and John O’Shea’s Steps In Time occupying equal top spot in the markets.

Running as Rosehill Race 2 at 1:30pm (AEST) this year’s $175,000 Group 2 NSW Thoroughbred Breeders Classic (1200m) has drawn a final field of seven hopefuls.
At an equal quote of $2.70 in the latest bookmaker.com.au markets are Dane Shadow five-year-old Red Tracer resuming off a two and a half month break and the defending Breeders Classic winner Steps In Time.
Red Tracer, drawn ideally in gate two with Hugh Bowman to ride, was last seen running 10th in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m).
She ran a close first-up third in this race 12 months ago with Bowman in the saddle and also won the Group 2 Premiere Stakes over this distance at Randwick when resuming during the spring.
Steps In Time meanwhile will be after back-to-back wins in the Breeders after scoring a good win over Beaded in the event 12 months ago off a first-up win at Canterbury.
This year the Danehill Dancer five-year-old resumes racing here after a disappointing spring that finished with an eighth to Koonoomoo in a Group 3 for mares on Melbourne Cup Day.
In a wide open market there are three other single figure chances with:
- #1 Pear Tart ($4) – John Thompson’s Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara winner from the winter will carry the 58kg top-weight when resuming here with to ride, the Dehere mare out to improve on her two below par runs which rounded out her spring back in November
- #6 Choice Words ($6) – Choisir mare stepping up to black type company for the first time since October 2011 when outclassed in the Flight Stakes, winner at this track and distance in the wet during the winter so with rain around can be competitive
- #4 Ladys Angel ($7) – Joe Pride-trained six-year-old hasn’t run since failing in the Doomben 10,000 in Brisbane, had a good autumn before that however including a third in the Group 1 The Galaxy, looked good in a Sydney trial earlier in the month, was a competitive fifth in this last year
Nick Olive’s Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap third placegetter Capital Commander at $15 is the next best fancied before Freetoair on the rails rounds out the Breeders Classic field and odds as the $101 roughie.
