2013 Magic Millions 3YO Guineas Form Guide & Preview

The second richest race on the Gold Coast program for Saturday’s Magic Millions Race Day is the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas 2013, the Races.com.au team’s insider form guide analysis and betting preview for which is detailed below.

Sizzling

Sizzling is favourite for the 2013 Magic Millions 3YO Guineas but are they really the horse to beat?

Due to jump as the Gold Coast Race 5 at 2:45pm the $1 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) features a capacity field of 16 starters plus five emergencies lying in wait.

Topping the latest Magic Millions Guineas odds is the Kelso Wood-trained Sizzling, the Group 1 winning Snitzel colt looking to overcome a horror draw (20) and their shock last start conqueror (Lucky Hussler) who beat them home in an upset Vo Rogue Plate result on December 29 at Doomben.

Other top fancies in the mix for the MM Guineas this year include the Gai Waterhouse-trained fillies Driefontein (out to $5.50) and No Looking Back (into $4.60) who officially finished first and second respectively in the Magic Millions Classic last year after the quinella was reversed upon protest.

While the Magic Millions Guineas betting markets are dominated by these three hopefuls often the race form, betting history and facts can tell a different story.

To help you decide whether to stick with the favourites or back a longer priced Guineas hopeful this Magic Millions Day such as the Rob Heathcote-trained Vo Rogue Plate third place-getter Heza Jetsetter ($11) or Vo Rogue winner Lucky Hussler ($15) we have done the hard work for you.

After going over the complete Magic Millions 3YO Guineas field, form guide and betting history below we have the must know facts and stats on the classic.

Magic Millions Guineas Betting Facts & Form Stats

  • Last year’s MM Guineas winner was the local Peter Blazen-trained Punch On who came off a win in the Vo Rogue Plate, jumped from barrier six (of 16) and was ridden by Paul Hammersley
  • This year #2 Lucky Hussler ($15) will vie for the same Vo Rogue – MM Guineas double
  • There are three other last-start winners accepted for the race with #10 No Looking Back (Listed Carrington Stakes, 1100m, Rosehill, 01/01/2013), #12 Discreet (Carlton Mid FM 1MW Handicap, 1100m, Doomben, 29/12/12) and the last emergency #21 Bennetta (Bowermans Furniture F3YO BM75, 1250m, Canterbury, 29/12/12)  who is unlikely to gain a start
  • While not a last-start winner the form surround #15 She’s A Stalker ($11) is very good as she won the Wyong Magic Millions 3YO Stakes two runs back and two of the past three MM Guineas winners scored in the Wyong race leading up to their Gold Coast triumph with Torio’s Quest and Graceful Anna
  • Last year’s winning hoop Hammersley will vie for back-to-back wins this year with the ride on #13 Caliente ($17)
  • Gate six meanwhile drawn this year by roughie of the field #16 Lady Colours ($126) who will retain last year’s winning barrier with or without the emergencies gaining a start
  • Gold Coast-trained horses looking to keep the trophy at home again this year are #2 Lucky Hussler ($15), #5 Platinum State ($21), #6 Regular ($101), #13 Caliente ($17), #16 Lady Colours ($126), #18e Reflectance ($101) and #20e Sookie ($101)
  • The highest Win Rate of the field belongs to the first emergency #17 Rocky King ($101) with 55.56%
  • There are then three horses all boasting a 50% Win Rate with the favourite #1 Sizzling ($4.80), #2 Lucky Hussler ($15) and #9 Driefontein ($5.50)
  • #9 Driefontein also has the best Place Percentage of the field with 87.50% followed by #10 No Looking Back (80%), #1 Sizzling (75%), #15 She’s A Stalker (71.43%) and #18e Reflectance (71.43%)
  • If successful #9 Driefontein will become the first horse in history to win the Magic Millions Classic – MM Guineas in successive years
  • The weight carrying record for the Magic Millions Guineas is 56.5kg which was carried to victory by Heart Of The Citi (2008); eight horses are allocated above this weight for Saturday with #1 Sizzling (58.5kg), #2 Lucky Hussler (58kg), #3 Noogoora Burr (57.5kg), #4 Saluter (57kg), #5 Platinum State (57kg), #6 Regular (57kg), #7 Grand Business (57kg) and #8 Heza Jetsetter (57kg)
  • Only three horses have previously won at the Gold Coast track with #1 Sizzling (2-1-0-0), #9 Driefontein (1-1-0-0) and #16 Lady Colours (2-1-0-0)
