2012 Festival Stakes Odds – Galah & Cabernet Hard to Split

Two horses are currently battling for favouritism in the Festival Stakes 2012 betting markets for this Saturday’s Rosehill feature with Galah and Cabernet installed at the top of the odds.

Galah

Galah (red & white silks) is co-favourite in the 2012 Festival Stakes for this Saturday

Running as Rosehill Race 6 at 4:30pm (AEST) the $100,000 Listed Festival Stakes (1500m) drew a capacity field this year and the bookies cannot decide on a clear favourite for the summer showdown.

Peter Snowden’s Redoute’s Choice four-year-old Galah and the Matthew Smith-trained Al Maher mare Cabernet are co-favourites in the latest Festival Stakes odds both paying $6.

Galah has a gun draw in gate three with Kerrin McEvoy to ride, the Darley-owned stallion coming off a close second over the Flemington mile on Emirates Stakes Day and tipped to improve as they return to Sydney.

Six-year-old Cabernet meanwhile has been in flying form over the past month or so running second in a Group 3 feature on Melbourne Cup Day before her last start victory over Skyerush in the Listed Summoned Stakes (1500m) at Sandown on November 17.

Following the co-favourites there is just one other runner under $10 in the Festival Stakes betting markets with Steve Englebrecht’s Snitzel four-year-old Malavio paying $7.50.

Due to be ridden by regular jockey Nathan Berry on Saturday Malavio improved on a disappointing run at Rosehill two back when carrying 59kg on a really firm track when they came within a length of fellow Festival Stakes hopeful Darci Be Good running an eye-catching fourth in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup (1600m).

Other top fancies with genuine claims at more attractive odds then include Snowden’s other runner Classics ($10) after her third straight win at the track, the John O’Shea-trained Gangster’s Choice ($11) who has gained a start as the first emergency following the early withdrawal of Praecido, defending Festival Stakes winner Monton ($11) with the 59kg top-weight to overcome, and Hawkesbury Gold Cup winner Darci Be Good ($13) with work to do from their horror barrier 17 draw.
