Flight Stakes 2012 Odds Update – Dear Demi New Favourite

One of the four Group 1 feature races on the Epsom Handicap Day program at Royal Randwick today is the fillies-only 2012 Flight Stakes with some notable market moves occurring in the lead-up to Randwick Race 6.

Dear Demi is now the 2012 Flight Stakes favourite

Earlier in the week when bookmaker.com.au released their markets for the $400,000 Group 1 Coolmore Flight Stakes (1600m) two fillies were fighting for favouritism with the Bart Cummings-trained Norzita ($3.50) narrowly winning the battle over Dear Demi ($3.60).

Both fillies have since eased out in their prices to win the Flight Stakes this afternoon and it is now Clarry Conners’ Group 1 performing Dehere filly Dear Demi who is now topping the Flight Stakes odds.

She has drifted out from $3.60 to $3.70 to improve on her last start fourth in the Tea Rose Stakes (1500m) here on September 22, but Tea Rose runner-up (losing on protest) Norzita has gone right out to $3.80.

Norzita is now equal second favourite with market mover Urban Groove, the punters again coming for the Gai Waterhouse contingent in Sydney this weekend.

Waterhouse’s Charge Forward filly Urban Groove has won both of her career starts to date, firstly by five lengths at Kembla Grange and then a good win in the Listed Reginal Allen Quality (1200m) at Rosehill last Saturday, and as such has been backed in from $4 to $3.80 as she steps up to Group 1 company today.

There has also been some steady money for the Chris Waller-trained daughter of Fastnet Rock Jade Marauder in from $7.50 to $6.50.

Already a Group 3 winner in the autumn having won the Sweet Embrace Stakes, Jade Marauder is nearing her peak after three eye-catching runs this time in, the two most recent of which were a third in both the Furious Stakes and Tea Rose Stakes.

Other fillies to firm in their price for a Flight Stakes win this arvo are Tea Rose Stakes winner on protest Longport ($11 into $10) and for more value the Gerald Ryan-trained outsider Flying Snitzel in from $31 to $26.
