Before the Group 1 racing action kicks off in Sydney this afternoon one of the good lead-up events will be Royal Randwick Race 4 – the $125,000 Group 3 Craven Plate (2000m), and the Races.com.au team have our ear out for the racetrack whispers to provide you with the late mail tip.
Jumping at 2:00pm the Craven Plate field is down to nine weight-for-age gallopers following the early scratchings of #1 Rangirangdoo and #5 Seville with betting at bookmaker.com.au dominated by Mourayan ($2.70) who ran an excellent second last time out to Lamasery in the Group 2 Hill Stakes over this track and distance.
Mourayan has the experience and the class and more than enough spring skill, but they aren’t our late mail tip.
We are tipping a tight Craven Plate finish today with Mourayan right up there but it is $6.50 chance Western Symbol from the Gai Waterhouse stables we are tipping to win today.
The High Chaparral six-year-old did nothing first-up when dead last in the Cameron Handicap, but that was a tough race to start in and their second-up record is much better.
They won the Group 3 HKJC Stakes over this distance second-up at Rosehill in the autumn and we are tipping them to produce a similar effort here having had the Cameron experience to warm up.
So head to bookmaker.com.au now and get behind Western Symbol, currently paying $6.50 in the Craven Plate odds, for value.
Or ignore our late mail tip – at your own peril! – and get behind either the favourite Mourayan or one of their other longer priced rivals such as recent market mover Less Is More ($10) at Australia’s premier sportsbook!
