More Joyous Gives Punters Joy with Win in 2011 Canterbury Stakes

More Joyous

More Joyous is the 2011 Canterbury Stakes winner

A favourite has finally saluted at Rosehill’s Coolmore Classic Day this afternoon with Gai Waterhouse’s superstar mare More Joyous coasting to an easy win in the $175,000 Group 2 Canterbury Stakes (1300m).

Living up to the expectations of the punters and fans More Joyous was never threatened in scoring her third win this prep after back-to-back success in the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m) and Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m).

It was the ideal lead-up run for More Joyous’ main autumn aim, the $2 million Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick on April 16.

Before today More Joyous lead the 2011 Doncaster Mile odds at a quote of $3 to win through Luxbet and is sure to firm in the market following her all too easy victory today.

In an aggressive ride from Nash Rawiller, when Love Conquers All hit the lead after jumping More Joyous was quickly taken to the front of the field.

The long-odds on favourite at $1.70, More Joyous lead from Love Conquers All throughout while Demerit settled into third on the inside.

Resuming Doncaster Mile winner from last year, Rangirangdoo was hard ridden at the back of the pack and made up good ground down the outside before running out of condition in the final few hundred meters.

On the home straight More Joyous pulled away with ease in total control.

She travelled beautifully, quickened when asked and zipped home on a Slow 7 producing a stunning final 600m sectional time of 34:86.

More Joyous won running at half pace in what could have been a simple barrier trial for the triple Group 1 winning four-year-old.

On the line it was More Joyous 2 ¾ lengths ahead of Love Conquers All while the Peter Snowden-trained Demerit finished third.

Boasting a sensational career record, More Joyous has now won 13 of her 17 starts to date today’s win boosting her total earnings to over $1.98 million in prize money.

Luxbet also have the best odds on the next race at Rosehill, the 2011 Ranvet Stakes jumping at 2:50pm (AEDST).
