2011 William Reid Stakes Win Next for Black Caviar

Black Caviar

Black Caviar will look to extend her winning streak in the 2011 William Reid Stakes

Superlative sprint queen Black Caviar is set to score a fourth Group 1 win and continue her indescribable succession of race victories to 11 when she contests the $500,000 Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) under the lights at Moonee Valley on Friday March 25.

Already the 2011 William Reid Stakes winner in the minds of all that saw her canter to an embarrassingly easy victory in the $1 million Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington last Saturday, the Peter Moody-trained Black Caviar became the first Aussie racehorse in history to win all 10 of her opening career starts.

It is not just the number of wins that have the crowds in a frenzy over this Bel Esprit four-year-old, it is the ease and beauty in the way Black Caviar so effortlessly trounces her rivals.

In her latest victory in the Newmarket, Black Caviar simply coasted to a three length win over Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily, who carried an incredible 8kg less than the winner, in a fashion unseen in a sprinter before her.

The William Reid Stakes is next on the agenda for the World Champion sprinter and it will be only the bravest of challengers that step up to try to dethrone the queen.

Horses that are heading towards a start and likely loss in the 2011 William Reid Stakes include:

  • True Persuasion (Mick Price) – Another Bel Esprit four-year-old, twice beaten by Black Caviar
  • Valuabelle (Dennis O’Leary) – Improving Face Value mare, winner of two 1200m sprints at Moonee Valley this preparation
  • Crystal Lily (Mathew Ellerton & Simon Zahra) – Last year’s Golden Slipper winner, ran fifth to Black Caviar in the Lightning Stakes before her second in the Newmarket
  • King Pulse (Canny Lad) – Returning Canny Lad four-year-old, seventh in the Lightning Stakes and fifth in the Newmarket

Following the William Reid Black Caviar will have one run in Sydney in the $1 million Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 9 before Moody takes his star up to Queensland for the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

The weight-for-age $400,000 BTC Cup (1200m) on May 14 and then the $650,000 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) on May 28 are the main winter aims for Black Caviar in Brisbane.

Nominations for the 2011 Pulse Pharmacy William Reid Stakes will be taken on March 21 before the William Reid Stakes final field of acceptors is published here first on March 23.
