This Saturday while Blue Diamond Stakes Day lights up Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne, the action of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival also continues with Rosehill Gardens set to run their Silver Slipper Stakes meeting.
Nominations for all the Rosehill races this Saturday have been released including those for the $200,000 Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m).
The 2011 Silver Slipper Stakes, one of the preparatory races for two-year-olds heading towards the $3.5 million Golden Slipper on April 2, has drawn 16 nominations.
Leading the list of Sliver Slipper Stakes early entries is the Clarry Conners-trained Satin Shoes.
Daughter of 1995 Golden Slipper winner Flying Spur, Satin Shoes is currently the $10 third favourite in the early 2011 Golden Slipper betting markets behind Sepoy ($6) and Karuta Queen ($9).
Unbeaten in her two career starts to date, Satin Shoes most recently won the $100,000 Listed Widden Stakes (1100m) at Randwick on February 12.
The exciting filly will be out to make it three straight in the Silver Slipper on Saturday after connections ruled her out of the Blue Diamond Stakes in favour of focusing on a Golden Slipper assault.
Widden Stakes’ runner-up Elite Falls has also been nominated for this year’s Silver Slipper Stakes showdown.
The John O’Shea-trained More Than Ready filly Elite Falls has had three career starts her only victory to date being in the $250,000 Inglis Banner (1000m) at Moonee Valley where she defeated Masthead by a tidy 2 ½ lengths.
Leading Victorian trainer Peter Moody has nominated two of his stable juveniles for the Silver Slipper with last start winner of the Listed Gold Sovereign Stakes (1200m) in Tasmania Golden Archer and More Than Ready colt Huegill whose only career start to date was a third behind Sepoy in the Blue Diamond Prelude on February 12.
Other notable 2011 Silver Slipper Stakes nominees include:
- Diamond To Pegasus (Tony Sergi) – Won the Listed Canonbury Stakes (1100m) last start at Randwick
- Envious (Clinton McDonald) – Hussonet colt having their second career start after running fourth on debut in the Blue Diamond Preview
- Wild And Proud (Gai Waterhouse) – Coming off a narrow third in the Canonbury Stakes, beaten less than half a length
- Bossdon City (Brett Cavanough) – Won on debut at Rosehill over 1100m on January 15 before finishing a well-beaten fifth in the Blue Diamond Preview
The 2011 Silver Slipper Stakes final field and barrier draw will be released on Wednesday and published here at Races.com.au along with our exclusive betting tips so stay tuned.
