Star mare Hot Danish is the clear favourite for the 2011 Expressway Stakes

Betting markets have been released for this Saturday’s $200,000 Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill and as expected, star mare Hot Danish has opened the clear favourite as she resumes racing for the season.

Les Bridge’s seven-year-old daughter of Nothin’ Leica Dane, Hot Danish is currently the $2.10 favourite in the Expressway Stakes odds at Luxbet.

Coming off a successful spring season that included multiple Group wins, Hot Danish has come up trumps with barrier one for Saturday.

She also meets her rivals in the Expressway Stakes field 2kg better with just 56.5kg under the weight-for-age conditions of the race, giving her a nice advantage.

Talented Mossman four-year-old Love Conquers All is the second elect in the Luxbet Expressway Stakes betting currently paying $3.50.

Since odds opened money has come in for Love Conquers All, winner of last year’s Group 3 Missile Stakes (1200m) and having shown form with a winning trial at Warwick Farm on January 24, and they have firmed in from $3.60.

One other runner is at single-figure odds, Border Rebel paying $8.50 through Luxbet.

Prepared by Sue Grills in Tamworth, Johannesburg gelding Border Rebel is third-up for the season having run third in the Listed Carrington Stakes (1100m) at Randwick and then finished a game fifth behind some tough competition in the Listed Canterbury Classic (1100m) last start.

Hard to back for the win, Border Rebel looks best for Place bets in the Expressway.

Other horses at longer odds in the market that could add value to the Expressway Stakes exotics include David Payne’s multiple Group placegetter Centennial Park and the Chris Waller-trained veteran Danleigh both at $10, and Gai Waterhouse’s consistent six-year-old Lorne Dancer at $18.

The roughie of the field is Count Encosta paying $126, a seemingly generous price for John Thompson’s Encosta De Lago four-year-old so watch for Fixed Place Odds for a nice outside bet.
