The final field of gallopers set to contest the $500,000 Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) at Ascot Racecourse this Saturday, December 4, has been released by Perth Racing today.
Sixteen horses have been accepted into the 2010 Kingston Town Classic field, including early favourites Famous Roman and Playing God.
The Jim Taylor-trained Famous Roman has enjoyed back-to-back stakes wins at Ascot in the Listed Northerly Stakes (1400m) and the Group 3 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) this season before finishing a gallant second to Gathering in the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) a fortnight ago.
With Gathering out of the Kingston Town Classic, six-year-old Famous Roman is now likely to open as the favourite when markets reopen at Luxbet.
The other runner that the punters will be backing is Neville Parnham’s talented three-year-old Playing God, the son of boom sire Blackfriars coming off wins in the Group 2 WA Guineas (1600m) and then the Listed Aquanita Stakes over the same 1800m distance as the Kingston Town Classic last Saturday.
Set to carry just 52kg as the lightweight of the field, Playing God is a very attractive pick in this year’s Kingston Town Classic.
Leading local trainer Parnham has also paid up for Playing God’s older full brother God Has Spoken, the R J Peters Stakes’ winning four-year-old another genuine chance set to be ridden by Brad Parnham.
Other notable horses in the Kingston Town Classic field include Fred Kersley’s five-year-old Scenic gelding Grand Nirvana, beaten Railway Stakes favourite Colour Correct, and the Grant Williams-trained duo of Ranger and Tranquility.
The 2010 Kingston Town Classic barrier draw will be conducted tomorrow and published here at Races.com.au, so bookmark this site.
Following the barrier draw the betting odds for the feature will open again at Luxbet, so get ready for the action by opening an account with them today!
