Trainer Peter Moody finished off a brilliant Caulfield Guineas Day this afternoon, winning the closing race with his four-year-old mare Avenue, who claimed victory in the $100,000 Listed Sprint Series Final (1200m).
Avenue’s win made it a treble for Moody and jockey Luke Nolen, who earlier combined to win the marquee race of the day with Anacheeva in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas, as well as taking out the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes with returning star Black Caviar.
In the Sprint Series, Avenue went out as the $3.60 favourite and began well from barrier nine to take the early lead.
Running at a solid pace, Anabaa grey Avenue simply flew away and continued to open up ground over the field to lead all the way.
She streaked clear in the last 200m, running her rivals ragged to finish three lengths ahead of Red Flair ($14), gallant in defeat having sat second or third the entire race, with Dorf Command ($9.50) in third.
Avenue has now won six of her 12 career starts, including two on the trot following her last start victory in the Testa Rossa also at Rosehill.
In a defining day where many of the spring stars reigned supreme including So You Think in the Yalumba Stakes and More Joyous in the Toorak Handicap, there will be a definite reshuffle of the futures betting markets for the next Group 1 features on the calendar.
Next Saturday the action of the 2010 Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival continues with Caulfield Cup Day, so stay tuned for our updated betting previews for the Group Caulfield Cup (2400m) and new markets.
