Umatain has won the 1700m Moet & Chandon handicap race for three year old fillies.
Ridden by Blake Shinn, Umatain sprinted to the finish lane in the last 50m, beating Azwa by a nose length.
Poison Ivy was one of the first fillies out of the stalls however it was Beedeeo that took the lead in front of Azwa, Liffeybel and Umatain.
The horses maintained their positions with race favourite Devoirs further up the back until the last 200 metres when Umatain and Azwa took off to battle itout for first place.
Umatain won with a time of 1 mintue 43.40 seconds in front of runner-up Azwa and third place recipient Cassini Contest.
Trainer Clinton McDonald has been targeting the filly at this particular race for some time now.
“She’s a lovley filly…I knew she’d keep giving during the race,” said McDonald.
Umatain will now go to paddock until the South Australian Oaks in April next year.
