The Golden Rose Stakes 2016 betting markets for this afternoon’ feature at Rosehill Gardens remain a battle for favouritism between Astern and Omei Sword with the latter regaining top spot in the odds.

Chris Waller’s last start Silver Shadow Stakes winning filly Omei Sword is one of three fillies in this year’s $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) looking to buck the trend and beat home the boys for the first time since Forensics (2008).

She is drawn a treat in barrier three with Joao Moreira in the saddle and is back into $4.20 in Golden Rose Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au after drifting out to $4.50 earlier in the week.

Omei Sword is the narrow favourite again just shading the John O’Shea-trained Medaglia D’Oro colt Astern who is looking to complete the Run To The Rose – Golden Rose stakes double for the stable for the second year in a row following Exosphere (2015).

He has a wider barrier 12 draw, but loves Rosehill (3-2-0-0) and the Soft going in Sydney will also suit as two of his four career wins have been on a Soft-rated track.

Occupying the third line of Golden Rose betting is the big market mover Yankee Rose ($9.50 into $5.50) for David Vandyke.

She is first-up after a bit of a hit-and-miss time off since her Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) success over the Golden Rose distance at Randwick back in April.

Yankee Rose has the blinkers on today and Zac Purton aboard from barrier nine where she has options in running.

The last of the single figure fancies is the easing Divine Prophet ($4.60 out to $6) for Hawkes Racing who comes off a win in the Group 3 Up & Coming Stakes (1300m) three weeks ago.

A Group 1 placegetter over the mile, he will relish getting out to 1400m second-up with Tommy Berry retaining the ride.

There has also been money coming in for the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained El Divino ($15 into $11) who jockey Hugh Bowman will shoot for a fifth Golden Rose win aboard.

The Snitzel colt ran fourth in the Run To The Rose first-up and should be improving sharply second-up.

The other $11 fancy in the Golden Rose odds in from $12 is Godolphin and O’Shea’s other hopeful Impending in barrier two with Brenton Avdulla retaining the ride after the Run To The Rose third a fortnight ago.

The Golden Rose Stakes smoky meanwhile could be Waterhouse’s other chance Thronum out in gate 13 with Kerrin McEvoy riding the $41 roughie.

Winner of the Listed The Rosebud (1200m) two back before a third in the Up & Coming Stakes, Thronum was beaten only a quarter-length in the blanket finish last time out and looks one of the value bets to place in this field.
