My Country Tops 2016 Cap D’Antibes Stakes Field & Odds

The super-consistent Peter & Paul Snowden-trained My Country has opened favourite to win first-up at Flemington Racecourse this Saturday in the Cap D’Antibes Stakes 2016 on Makybe Diva Stakes Day.

Kicking off the meeting’s Black-Type action, the $120,000 Listed Cap D’Antibes Stakes (1100m) features a bumper final field of 19 three-year-old fillies and is due to run as Flemington Race 2 at 1:00pm (AEST).

Heading the latest Cap D’Antibes Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au at $4.80 for the win is the returning Poet’s Voice filly My Country.

She has won three of her four career starts to date, most recently taking out the Listed Lancaster Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm back on June 11.

She has trialled once since for a third to Prompt Response over 900m at Rosehill in mid-August and is down to make her Melbourne debut on the weekend.

My Country has drawn wide out in barrier 14, but the bookies are taking no chances who is improving each run and who the team have a high opinion of.

“They [the Snowdens] have got a big opinion of her, and I look forward to having the opportunity to ride her and see what she’s got under the bonnet,” jockey Dwayne Dunn told Racing Victoria speaking of My Country.

Four other fillies are under $10 for the win in the Cap D’Antibes Stakes betting markets this Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival including Missrock and Ariaz at an equal $6 for the win.

Mark Zahra rides the Robbie Laing-trained Fastnet Rock filly Missrock from barrier six first-up as she looks to retain her flawless first-up record (2-2-0-0).

She was last seen winning the Group 3 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 9 so is right up to this class and also has form at Flemington having run third to Concealer in a Group 3 over 1000m here last Melbourne Cup Day.

Lightly-raced grey Ariaz is a daughter of Charge Forward having her second stakes start after her second at Morphettville in the Group 3 Breeders Stakes (1200m) in mid-April.

She raced first-up on August 24 for a second over 1000m at Sandown-Hillside and will have taken improvement off that run with Ryan Maloney continuing his association this weekend.

The next best in betting is the market mover Getemhel ($9 into $7.50) drawn out in barrier 13.

Local trainer Nigel Blackiston saddles-up the Gio Ponti filly who was unplaced on debut in Adelaide during the autumn before breaking her maiden status first-up on August 17 at Geelong over 1100m.

She enjoyed a 3.25 length victory that day, indicating she will handle the rise in class this weekend with Patrick Moloney coming aboard for the win.

Rounding out the single-figure fancies are the Joe Pride-trained Kentucky Miss ($8) in the far outside alley (19 of 19) who ran third to Star Turn at Rosehill in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) last start and Super Too ($9) drawn better in barrier three who has won three of her five career starts.
