2016 WJ Healy Stakes Odds: Inside Runners Top Markets

The two best drawn runners in Saturday’s WJ Healy Stakes 2016 are dominating betting on the Eagle Farm sprint this Tattersall’s Tiara Day.

That's A Good Idea

The inside proved the wrong place to be at the recently reopened Eagle Farm track a fortnight ago on Stradbroke Day, but the bookies are tipping the opposite for this weekend’s $175,000 Group 3 W.J. Healy Stakes (1200m).

Jumping from gate two in the 13-starter field for the handicap clash and carrying the 59.5kg top weight is the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained That’s A Good Idea.

He sits top of the WJ Healy Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $4 after being backed in early from his opening quote of $4.40.

Hugh Bowman takes over for Tye Angland in the saddle of the Flying Spur six-year-old who comes off a narrow win with 62kg on his back over 1100m at Randwick in late May.

Before that he was third in Scone’s Listed Ortensia Stakes (1100m), a race he won last year in his latest victory.

That’s A Good Idea is looking to break a notable winning drought then when he lines-up in the WJ Healy in his first run at the track.

Hot on his heels in the latest WJ Healy Stakes betting markets at $4.40 is the rails-drawn Mogador who gets in on the 54kg minimum.

John O’Shea trains the Godolphin-raced Lonhro colt, the gun three-year-old coming off a Doomben second behind Kamacite in the Listed Queensland Day Stakes (1200m) from May 28.

Group 1 performed when fifth to Japonisme at Flemington in the Coolmore Stud Stakes down the straight last Melbourne Cup Carnival, Mogador is yet to win in stakes’ class but is being kept safe in betting for Saturday.

Occupying the third line of betting at $5.50 and drawn the opposite end of the field in barrier 13 of 13 is Odyssey Moon, another last-start winner.

Prepared by Robert Smerdon the Victorian visitor is also a three-year-old colt, the nicely-bred son of Snitzel having placed top three in his four latest assignments.

Included in that string of strong performances was a second in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) at Randwick and a win over 1300m in the wet at Sandown-Hillside on June 4 carrying 58kg.

Rounding out the single-figure hopes for the WJ Healy win this winter are Kelso Wood’s recent Bribie Handicap winner Into The Red ($8) who ran sixth in the race last year behind Dothraki and the Tony Gollan-trained Jet Spur mare Tina Melina ($8).

At more generous prices but still with genuine claims are the likes of Robert Heathcote’s last start Sunshine Coast winning Commands six-year-old Saluter ($12) and the James Cummings-trained Group 3 winning mare Shamalia ($15).
