First Seal Favourite in 2015 Tramway Stakes Betting

Group 1 winning mare First Seal is race favourite for her delayed four-year-old debut in the Tramway Stakes 2015 in Sydney on Saturday as part of the Chelmsford Stakes Day action at Randwick Racecourse.

A bumper final field of 14 starters plus four emergencies is engaged for the $175,000 Group 2 Tattersalls Club Tramway Stakes (1400m) this Sydney Spring Racing Carnival including Flight Stakes winner First Seal.

Drawn the outside alley hasn’t stopped the daughter of Fastnet Rock from opening the $3.90 favourite in Tramway Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au to win the set weights plus penalties clash on the weekend in her first run since crossing sixth to Amanpour in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) at the same Randwick track back in April.

She’s got a gun record over the distance (3-2-1-0) and the Randwick course (5-2-2-0) and should be ready to fly first-up after overcoming a hoof abscess that ruled her out of the Warwick Stakes that she was originally to resume in.

Despite the size of this year’s Tramway Stakes field and markets just two of First Seal’s rivals are also under double figures for the win with Messene ($7) and the early market mover Arabian Gold ($7.50).

Team Hawkes’ Lonhro seven-year-old Messene is third-up here, the veteran sprinter – miler’s latest run being a close third to Royal Descent in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) on August 22.

Arabian Gold is prepared by Gai Waterhouse, the Dubawi mare not having won since the Group 3 Golden Pendant (1400m) at Rosehill in late September.

She did take out a 1250m barrier trial at Randwick on August 21 in fine style however suggesting she could be ready to break the drought on Saturday for her fourth win from eight starts at the Randwick track.

Outside the top three in Tramway Stakes betting other livewire hopes at juicer odds include Kris Lees’ multiple Group 1 winning Savabeel mare Lucia Valentina ($10), the John O’Shea-trained second emergency Hauraki ($10) who the bookies are taking no chances on, the fellow Godolphin-raced Group 3 winner It’s Somewhat ($11), a third O’Shea-trained hope in Lonhro four-year-old Sweynesse ($12) who was runner-up in the Randwick Guineas back in March and the Chris Waller-trained Strawberry Boy ($13) who won back-to-back Doomben races in the winter last prep.

See below for the full Tramway Stakes 2015 odds, fixed win prices open online through Ladbrokes.com.au now where all races at Randwick and Moonee Valley on Saturday will have Best Tote or SP + 20% markets on just before jump!
