St James’s Palace Stakes Tips and Betting Preview

Only six runners have been confirmed in the final field for tonight’s Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes (1600m) at the 2015 Royal Ascot Carnival; figuring as a particularly interesting race from a betting standpoint and offering punters great value for money.

Talented Irish three-year-old Gleneagles ($1.55) has returned to racing in exceptional form this season and has maintained status as clear favourite in 2015 St James’s Palace Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of Make Believe ($4.50) and Consort ($6).

Will Gleneagles justify his resounding favouritism and take out the 2015 St James’s Palace Stakes or will one of his rivals post an upset?

1st

Gleneagles ($1.55)

Yet to taste anything but success this time, Gleneagles is clearly the standout in the small St James’s Palace Stakes field and should figure in any quinella or trifecta bet this evening. Stamping his claims as one to watch with four standout and consecutive race wins through his maiden racing preparation in 2014, capped by success in the Group 1 National Stakes (1408m), the Galileo colt returned this time for an easy win in the Group 1 2000 Guineas (1600m) before repeating the dose in the Group 1 Irish 2,000 Guineas (1600m) last time out on May 23rd.

2nd

Consort ($6)

Consort has appeared on course only twice competitively so far, but is also yet to taste anything but success and appears primed for a step-up to Group 1 company for the first time in the 2015 St James’s Palace Stakes. Taking out the EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes (1408m) on debut in September last year, the Lope De Vega colt returned this time for success in the Listed Heron Stakes (1622m) on May 28th and is sure to be boosted by resurgent hoop Frankie Dettori in the saddle.

3rd

Make Believe ($4.50)

Make Believe has stamped his claims as one to watch over his short racing career so far and is a leading chance of a top three finish in the 2015 St James’s Palace Stakes. Taking out a pair of French minors on debut in late 2014, the Makfi colt returned this time for second in the Group 3 Prix Djebel (1400m) on April 2nd before returning to the winner’s circle in the Group 1 Prix Le Parisien (1600m) on May 10th.
