2014 Queen’s Cup Final Field & Barrier Draw

15 talented stayers will be on show at Ascot Racecourse this Saturday after the final field was released for the Group 3 Queen’s Cup (2200m).

The race contains two headliners – God Has Spoken and Talent Show – who will both carry the top weight of 59kg and have drawn opposite ends of the barrier spectrum.

Neville Parnham’s God Has Spoken will have to overcome a wide start from barrier 13, which means the eight-year-olds disappointing season could continue. After finishing end of the field in the Group 3 Northerly Stakes (1400m), Group 3 Asian Beau Stakes (1400m), and Listed Ascot Gold Cup (1800m), God Has Spoken failed to place in the Listed Tattersall’s Cup (2100m).

Meanwhile, Graeme Ballantyne’s Talent Show has drawn barrier five, which is a vast improvement from barrier 13 he started from in the Tattersall’s Cup last time out to finish second last.

Jemma Hayman’s Knightlike has scored the inside run from barrier one with Alan Kennedy in the saddle. The eight-year-old gelding will also carry the minimum weight of 55kg, which is up to four kilograms less than his rivals. Surprisingly, this will be Knightlike’s first Group race after 29 career starts. He hasn’t had a win since the Listed GA Towton Cup (2200m) in December 2013.

Daniel Morton will deliver a dual-pronged attack on the race with Strike The Stars and Red Blast while Justin Warwick is set to triple his chances with three runners – Global Flirt, Son Of Something, and Lucciola.

Five-year-old gelding Red Blast has had a pretty successful run of late. He won the Listed Boulder Cup (2100m) in September after finishing runner-up in the Coolgardie Cup (1760m). The gelding then just missed out on a placing his next three times out in the Listed Kalgoorie Cup (2300m), Listed Ascot Gold Cup (1800m), and Listed Tattersall’s Cup (2100m) despite solid runs in each.

Red Blast has got the form to find success in the 2014 Queen’s Cup, he just needs to find the line as he jumps from barrier seven with Ms Jerry Noske. Strike The Starts will jump next to him in barrier eight under Ben Melham.

Global Flirt is Warwick’s best chance of success on Saturday after winning the Tattersall’s Cup last time out. However the gelding will need to overcome a wide start from barrier 11 with Douglas Whyte.

Son Of Something won the Listed Northam Cup (1600m) on October 26 before finishing runner up to his stable mate in the Tattersall’s Cup. The five-year-old will get a good start from barrier three carrying 56.5kg.

Six-year-old grey mare Lucciola will start next to him in barrier four with Ms Lucy Warwick to ride.
