Kuro Secures Impressive Heritage Stakes Win

Returning to the track in exceptional form this time in, classy three-year-old Kuro has secured without doubt his most impressive race win at Royal Randwick this afternoon, charging home to claim the Listed Heritage Stakes (1100m) by close to two lengths.

Jumping from the gates well, the Denman colt worked immediately to the head of the pack, setting a notable pace alongside Klammer and Echo Gal over the back straight and rounding the bend.

Finding the final straight with a clear racing line, Kuro quickly spooled up and charged clear of his closest rivals, finding the line in the clear of Echo Gal; Klammer maintaining a strong-enough sprint for third.

Jockey Blake Shinn delivered an exceptional ride on Kuro in the 2014 Heritage Stakes, and revealed he is excepting the three-year-old to develop into a serious contender in campaigns to come immediately after the race.

“He wasn’t too bad – he was pretty good, I think he’s just a natural free-rolling sprinter and I just let him be happy,” Shinn said after crossing the line.

“He cruised in front, he got into a strong cruising speed, got the rest chasing and was pretty dynamic, it was a fantastic win.

“I probably could have come back a bit early and just got him out of his stride, but I just used his action; he’s got a big free-striding, long looping action and I was hard fit, got them chasing and he quickened off that and I think he’s a very promising horse for the future.”

Trainer Joe Pride was understandably pleased with Kuro’s performance in the Heritage Stakes, and revealed he is yet to settle on a path for the classy three-year-old over the remainder of the Spring Racing Carnival.

“He’s taken a big step today,” Pride said following the Heritage Stakes.

“I’ve been really happy with him and it was a big test for him today but he comes through with flying colours.

“It’s a fantastic start to preparation, we’ll have a little consideration Jason and I what we’ll do with him now, possible trip to Melbourne but he’s only going to be better in the autumn so might put him aside.”

In taking out the 2014 Heritage Stakes, Kuro has now extended his impressive race record to four wins from just six competitive starts.
