This Saturday a field of smart WA-trained fillies will face off in the Belmont Oaks 2014, betting tips for the three-year-olds’ staying showdown listed below.
There are 13 in the mix for this year’s edition of the $100,000 Listed Belmont Oaks (2000m) that is set to run as Belmont Park Race 6.
Of those the red hot favourite at a firming $1.65 price is Adam Durrant’s flying daughter of Viscount, Tick Tick Bloom.
She’s out to extend her autumn – winter winning streak to four consecutive victories after another impressive effort at the track on June 21.
There she saw her first black-type field and handled it, and the colts and geldings, without issue winning the Listed Belmont Guineas (1600m).
After settling at the back of the 15-horse field in the Guineas, Tick Tick Bloom flew home over the closing stages working her way through them to run down and defeat Midnight Shimmer by half a length.
Jockey William Pike stays on for Saturday and Tick Tick Bloom certainly looks hard to beat.
She faces a similar line-up of rivals here too as in the Guineas, including the Grant Williams-trained runner-up Midnight Shimmer who is the next best in Belmont Oaks betting at $6.50.
But are these two the ones to lock into the Belmont Oaks quinella?
And are there any longer priced hopes at juicer odds in with a chance?
#2 Tick Tick Bloom ($1.65)
She’s short and firming but we really can’t look past this up-and-coming staying filly who flashed home from back of the pack in the Guineas last time out. She’s undefeated in her past three runs at the track, and while those were all over a mile, she looked to have plenty in the tank last start. In flying form, they say never bet against a filly while she racing this well and we’re tipping her to handle the 2000m and handle these rivals with another gun Pike run.
#5 Star Of Husson ($9)
She is the longer priced of Grant Williams’ two Oaks hopes but this daughter of Husson is definitely in with a shot. Drawn out a little wider in barrier nine, she’s a get back type anyway having fallen in with Tick Tick Bloom in the Guineas. She didn’t get the distance to finish off the way Williams would have liked there however finishing ninth, but the extra meters are going to change that here. She entered Oaks calculations back on May 14 when she won at Belmont over 2100m by a big three and a half lengths, stepping up from the mile to 2000m here puts her right in the frame again.
3rd
Williams’ other runner is second pick and don’t think there will be much in the finish, especially in the placings where she’ll could be fighting it out with the stablemate. Plenty of stakes racing in Ascot this year for the daughter of Blackfriars who finished fourth in the Group 3 WA Oaks over the mile and a half (2400m) in March. Her Guineas second was brave, but she couldn’t hold off Tick Tick Bloom and the camp are likely to be nervous when she faces her again her.
