Nominations are now out for the Sydney majors at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday with Peter Moody’s exciting mare A Time For Julia among those taken for the Coolmore Classic 2014.

One of two elite levels on the Rosehill Racecourse program for the weekend, this year’s $600,000 Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) has attracted 26 fillies and mares at nomination stage today.

Heading those early entries is Redoute’s Choice four-year-old A Time For Julia who will be stepping up to Group 1 company for the first time.

The progressive Victorian enjoyed a first-up win at Caulfield this time in taking out the Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) before her second to Red Tracer in the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) in her Sydney debut at Rosehill on March 1.

Over the weekend she ran in Sydney again this time defeating Lilliburlero, the David Payne-trained Group 3 Triscay Stakes winner also among the Coolmore nominations, at Randwick in the Group 3 Roy Higgins Tribute (1200m).

Nominated for all the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival majors, A Time For Julia’s Group 1 career kicks off in the Coolmore.

She’s currently also a $51 chance for the Doncaster Mile and $101 for the TJ Smith Stakes next month.

Her other major target though is likely to be the $1 million Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on April 19 for which she pays $18 in the pre-post Ladbrokes.com.au markets.

Those markets are firmly led by Guy Walter’s 2013 Coolmore Classic champion Appearance ($4.40) and the Chris Waller-trained Red Tracer ($6) who ran first and third respectively in last weekend’ Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m).

While four-time Group 1 winner Appearance will now be saved for the George Ryder Stakes next start, last year’s Myer Classic champ Red Tracer has been nominated for the Coolmore back-up.

In the Coolmore Classic 2014 Moody, fresh off his Randwick Guineas triumph with Dissident, has also nominated for his Tattersall’s Tiara third placegetter Floria.

The Savabeel six-year-old will be second-up if accepted after a good resuming run finishing second in the Group 3 Tressday Stakes at Flemington at the start of the month.

Another top Queen Of The Turf Stakes fancy who is Coolmore Classic nominated meanwhile is Waller’s super consistent Dubawi grey Catkins ($6.50 third favourite).

Having finished in the money in all but three of her 19 career starts to date the four-year-old was runner-up to their stable mate in the Myer Classic last November before returning with a Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m) win at Rosehill on February 15.

She made it two on the trot then at Warwick Farm on March 8 with her easy two length victory over Sharnee Rose in the Group 3 Wiggle Stakes (1400m).

Aside from Red Tracer and Catkins, Waller’s Coolmore Classic contingent also features Group 2 winning six-year-old Arinosa and last autumn’s Australian Oaks winner Royal Descent.

Along with A Time For Julia and Catkins, other notable last start winners in the Coolmore Classic mix this year include Group 3 Mannerism Stakes – Schweppervescence Trophy double winner Bonaria after her third on the trot and Street Cry filly Solicit who has also won both her starts this time in.

The Mathew Ellerton & Simon Zahra-trained Solicit hasn’t finished worse than third in her past eight starts including a Group 1 Crown Oaks third in the spring.

This campaign she’s been in flying form winning the Group 3 The Mittys Vanity first-up before her last start Group 2 Kewney Stakes success at Flemington on March 8.

Other notable hopes in the classy line-up then include the Gerald Ryan-trained Angel Of Mercy, Dear Demi coming off a first-up third in the Wiggle Stakes and Gai Waterhouse’s Magic Millions Guineas winner Sweet Idea.
