Final Field & Preview for Saturday’s 2010 Robert Sangster Stakes

One of Adelaide’s finest days of racing will take place this Saturday at South Australia’s premier racing venue, Alan Scott Park at Morphettville. The elite line-up of races will be headlined by the $300, 000 Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m).

This year the Robert Sangster Stakes is known as the Sportingbet Classic, and as one of Adelaide’s most lucrative and prestigious races, has attracted a capacity field of 20 top-class fillies and mares.

Last start Yallambee Classic winner Majestic Music is one of the top contenders in the 2010 Robert Sangster Stakes.

The three-year-old filly trained by Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas took out the Group 2 Yallambee Classic in her first-up run back from a spell, and has seemed to jump right back into the brilliant form that saw her take out the Lexus Hybrid Stakes at Flemington before placing second in the Sandown Guineas last November.

Majestic Music has drawn barrier ten for Saturday and will be ridden by Clare Lindop.

One of Majestic Music’s biggest threats comes from stablemate Augusta Proud in barrier 13. The four-year-old More Than Ready mare won the Group 3 RN Irwin Stakes (1100m) last start and is improving with each run.

Another top contender is the consistent Mick Price-trained Velocitea drawn well in barrier five. Due to be ridden by in-form jockey Damien Oliver, Velocitea has won six of her sixteen career starts.

Winner of the Millie Fox Stakes back on February 27, Gai Waterhouse’s mare Montana Flyer is back to atone for her last start sixth in the Wiggle Quality Handicap and will start from barrier eight with Brad Rawiller aboard on Saturday.

Top Victorian trainer Peter Moody has two of his star females starting in the 2010 Robert Sangster Stakes as he seeks a Group 1 victory on Saturday following his withdrawal of Typhoon Tracy from the Coolmore Classic at Rosehill.

Headway and Avenue represent Moody, and will start from barriers 12 and 14 respectively.

The top two placegetters in the Robert Sangster Stakes will be exempt from ballot for the $300, 000 Group 1 Goodwood on Sunday May 2.

A number of other quality races are scheduled for the meeting, namely the $300, 000 Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m).
