Today the racing action at Royal Randwick will be headlined by the 2012 Epsom Handicap at 4:00pm and the punters are starting to come hard and fast for the Gai Waterhouse-trained favourite Fat Al.

Ambidexter is one of the notable 2012 Epsom Handicap betting market movers

Set to run as Randwick Race 7 the $500,000 Group 1 The Star Epsom (1600m) features a field of 15 genuine Group 1 horses with untapped Al Maher four-year-old Fat Al dominating the markets since betting opened at bookmaker.com.au.

A dual Group 3 winner at the track back in April, including the Carbine Club Stakes over the mile, Fat Al has had three runs this time in running second and third respectively to fellow Epsom rivals Ambidexter and Rolling Pin in the Group 2 Theo Marks Spring (1400m) and Group 2 Shannon Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill.

They come back from 58kg last Saturday to just 52kg in the weights today and this combined with their fitness and stepping up to the mile all work in their favour.

The punters and bookies agree and Fat Al has been heavily backed in the Epsom Handicap odds firming in from $4.80 to $4.40.

The other early Epsom Handicap betting market mover is then the Peter Snowden-trained Ambidexter who defeated Fat Al by a long neck in the Theo Marks.

Amibdexter, who ran a good fourth at this track and distance behind Mosheen in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas in the autumn, is also a 52kg lightweight today = the Commands four-year-old looking to prove their Theo Marks success was no fluke.

There has also been a tickle for Said Com into $15 from $17, the longest priced of Chris Waller’s Epsom trio having run a good second in the Randwick Guineas here back in March.

Another big market mover at juicer odds is then Fat Al’s stablemate Kontiki Park who has come in from $21 to $17 to score an upset Epsom Handicap result.

The Thorn Park seven-year-old has been in mixed form this time in, their most recent effort being a sixth in the Cameron Handicap.

They do however have an outstanding record over the mile running top two in all six of their starts over the distance making them an excellent Place Bet to make at bookmaker.com.au.

The other double-figure chance that has been well supported in the Epsom markets is then Lightinthenite in from $21 to $14, the John O’Shea-trained Galileo gelding who has an excellent winning strike rate of 45.45%, the second best in this field behind Fat Al.

The odds on a number of the other top fancies in the Epsom markets meanwhile have eased out with eye-catching George Main Stakes runner-up Rangirangdoo ($7.50 out to $8.50) and defending Epsom Handicap winner Secret Admirer ($7.50 out to $9) the most notable drifters.
