The Group 2 2012 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes gives a talented nine-horse field of two-year-olds a final chance to impress ahead of next weekend’s Group 1 TJ Smith.

A number of these horses are certainties to go on to the TJ Smith including odds-on favourite Sizzling who is currently being offered at $1.70 by bookmaker.com.au.

He looks the horse to beat and if the market is anything to go by there is only one who can topple the favourite and that is the lightly raced Academus ($3.70).

Other horses in the race include Kindergarten Stakes winner Dances On Stars ($9.50) and Hampden Stakes winner Noogoora Burr ($11.00).

The Winner

#1 Sizzling $1.70

This favourite looks about as much as a good thing as you can get.

Has missed the start his last two races and still managed to come back and take victory in both the Listed Ken Russeell Memorial Classic and the Group 2 Champagne Classic.

The Snitzel colt has been targeted for the Sires’ and TJ Smith all year so should be ready to step up to the 1400-metre distance.

A predicted heavy track won’t worry the talented youngster who brained them by 4 1/2 lengths on a heavy track despite jumping poorly in the Ken Russell Memorial Classic.

The Placings

#4 Academus $3.70 and #2 Toydini  $19.50

Peter Snowden-trained Academus has only had two starts to date but he has been highly impressive.

The Lohnro gelding looked to have the Champagne Classic won before Sizzling stole victory

The exciting youngster will be ridden by regular Snowden jockey Kerrin McEvoy and the only query appears to be over the track as he is yet to race in wet conditions.

Toydini failed to make an impact when eighth in his first Group level test at Sydney in early April but the Guy Walter-trained colt has plenty of potential.

She performed well on debut when second on a slow track and from four starts has won once and placed on another two occasions.

The Roughie

Toydini $19.50

Kind of cheating a bit here as our roughie also features in the placings but at $19.50 is definitely at outsider odds.

Since she first struffled at Group level she has scored victory at the Sires’ distance of 1400 metres and is a far more race-hardened prospect.
