After the Coolmore Classic 2012 nominations were extended until this morning the headline Rosehill race for this Saturday has attracted one additional entry in the Gai Waterhouse-trained Montana Flyer.

Yesterday 15 fillies and mares were entered for the $600,000 Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m), the total number of nominees now at 16.

While Anthony Cummings’ last-start Canberra Guineas winner She Goes To Rio was tipped to be a late nominee, the Captain Rio filly has instead been nominated for the $150,000 Group 3 Keith Nolan Classic (1600m) at Kembla Grange on Sunday.

In her place, however, is Flying Spur six-year-old Montana Flyer.

A winner of just four of her 32 career starts to date Montana Flyer will be third-up for the season if accepted for Saturday.

She resumed with a first-up seventh beaten two and a half lengths by fellow Coolmore Classic hopeful Steps In Time in the Group 2 NSW Thoroughbred Breeders Classic (1200m) followed by a last-start fifth to another Coolmore-bound chance Red Tracer in the Group 3 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill on March 3.

Chris Waller’s Dane Shadow four-year-old Red Tracer will be ridden by Glyn Schofield for the Coolmore with her Millie Fox winning jockey Hugh Bowman engaged to ride Guy Walter’s smart Flight Stakes and last-start Surround Stakes winning filly Streama in the race.

Streama is one of five previous Group 1 winners in the 2012 Coolmore Classic nominations along with reigning AJC Oaks champ Absolutely, the Peter Moody-trained King’s Rose, Epsom Handicap victor Secret Admirer and three-time elite level winner Yosei.

One of the lesser-known hopefuls with claims is Rob Heathcote’s Brisbane visitor Tomboy.

The Murphy’s Blu Boy four-year-old has won eight of her 15 career starts to date, all in Queensland, and was last seen finishing just a long-neck away second to Steel Zip in the Listed Tattersall’s Member’s Cup (1600m) at Eagle Farm on a Heavy (9) track on March 3.

With winning form over the Coolmore Classic distance of 1500-metres, Heathcote is hoping Tomboy can handle the obvious class rise and make an impression in her interstate debut on Saturday after Craig Williams put his hand up for the ride.

“You know you’re always half a chance when Craig Williams phones up and wants the ride,” Heathcote said.
