Melbourne Cup hopeful Efficient has been examined by three veterinarians after speculation that the horse was not at his peak for Tuesday’s race.

With various stories running through the media regarding Efficient’s health, Racing Victoria chief steward Terry Bailey decided to dispatch chief vet Dr. Paul O’Callaghan, with Dr. Geoff Hazard and Dr. Chris Whitton to exam the six year old.

Managing a 12-18 month old injury to his off foreleg, Efficient was cleared to run in this Tuesday’s race on the condition that he be monitored and examined again by Racing Victoria prior to racing.

Travelling to Lloyd Williams’ Mt Macedon training complex, the three vets also inspected Williams’ other Melbourne Cup runners C’est La Guerre and Zipping.

C’est La Guerre suffered significant back pain after a poor run in the Caulfield Cup and required manipulation to ease the gelding’s pain.

Williams stated that the five year old is now showing rapid improvement and will be expected to contend in the $5.5 million race.

Mackinnon Stakes contender Zipping was examined despite having no current issues and is fit and ready for this Saturday’s race as he prepares for his fourth Melbourne Cup start on Tuesday.
